Cage size

I’m trying to decide what cage size to get my two chameleons. I keep my male and female cage next to each other and it’s time to upgrade there cages to something bigger. I currently have them in a 20x16x16 cage right now but I can’t decide if I want a 36x18x18 or a 48x24x24. I’m horrible at making choices

I should add they are housed separately just in case someone thinks I’m keeping them together

Go bigger trust me you will be glad you did. 24x24x48 will be a good size for both. Then you can do a long 48 in uvb T5 fixture running across both. With the male he will want the extra room and with the female you will want the room to have a permanent lay bin for her. You can easily put a divider between so they can't see each other. :)

You read my mind lol. I bought a 48” hood a few weeks back for them to share and your correct about the laying bin, I love my female but that laying bin can get in the way of things

I also prefer the 2x2x4 because there is less drainage issues if you give long mists. I have my 2 hoehnelii in the 18x18x36 and it gets soaked much easier with a 2 minute mist and I’m constantly cleaning out my drainage bin.
Also if you put veiled sin anything smaller than the 2x2x4 your gonna have to upgrade again anyways. They are one of the larger species of chameleons

I do give long mist to my female. I rescued her a month ago. She was at the beginning stages of mbd, dehydration and an impacted bowel when I found her. So looks like I’m going for the 2x2x4 then

I guess next question is has anyone tried DYi cages? They look like better Quality then the one I bought at the pet store

Yeah lots of people have by taking old cabinets and repurposing them. Just search Cabinet in the forum search function and you will find a ton of threads with how to's as well.

I think she meant the brand DYI cages https://www.diycages.com

For what its worth, I would have bought it if it wasn't out of stock at the time. I wanted the clear front, so I ended up buying ReptiBreeze Deluxe. Never had the DYI brand, but it looks great.
