cage size help

Im getting a 6 month old male vieled. And i have a 18x18x36 Reptibrezze cage and im not getting a new cage anytime soon should i just get a female instead cuz i know males will need a 2x2x4 cage.

I really don't know too much about adult chameleons. Males do tend to be bigger than females but I've seen a few people who have adult chameleons in an 18x18x36' cage. It saves you space and I'm pretty sure its okay to keep them in that sized cage but if you could afford a bigger cage or the 24x24x48' cage then go for it. It will give them more room to climb and enjoy themselves. Again, I don't think it will be a big problem to have a 6 month old male in an 18x18x36' cage. Once he reaches a year possibly a little over then try considering on changing cages. I hope this helps!

Adult male veileds can grow to be 16+ inches.

My adult male is almost 18 inches long.

even if you got a female, you wouldt have enough room in a cage that size for her laying bin which she would need every day for the rest of her life, as females can lay eggs withou being bred.

If you cannot get or dont have the room for a 24x24x48 cage, then get a smaller species of cham, or dont get one right now. Not trying to be mean.

Veiled females get big too, I know people recommend that size sometimes but I wouldn't keep a girl in anything smaller than maybe a 24" x 36" cage, especially since you need room for a laying bin. Female chameleons will lay eggs regularly even without a male, like chickens, just in case you didn't know.

What about building your own cage? If you're on a budget you can get the veiled now for that cage you have now and build yourself a bigger one for a month or two from now. DIY is usually a lot cheaper, and you can build it however you want. Just an idea!

What are some smaller species? Preferably the same amount of care as a vieled. Cuz im still kinda new to chams.
