I am building Holly s new cage here very soon and i just bought a ficus tree for her from lowe s....my question is how long should i wait before i let her climb in it to make sure any sprays or anything are washed out of and off of it? Also for her cage i see that everyone s cage is built with screen, is it neccesary for them to built all screened in? does the screen help with humidity or other things? or can I use wire ( very small so she does not fit through it ) ? My fiancee would like to build with wire but i suggested we wait for some replys on here to see what is best for holly....

As long as you sprayed and wiped it down to so there aren't any pesticides, its all good. Let it dry and your good to go. Also, some prefer to replant in organic soil. But a lot of people just place large river rocks over the soil so the cham won't ingest it.

All screen enclosures aren't made to hold in humidity, but made to ensure proper ventilation. That's why its suggested to put live plants within the enclosure to maintain humidity levels.

What type of wire are you thinking about using? Window screen would most likely be easier then weaving your own wire pattern. Just make sure it won't rust.

Window screening is not ideal if your going to place fixtures on it. It will usually stretch from use and eventually tear. However you can still use it. Just place two beams of wood across the top and set your lights on it. Personally i use 1/2in steel screening. Basically it is very strong and chameleons won't hurt their feet on it. Be aware you have to trim the excess steel pieces or else you could risk injury to you or your animals.
