Buying worms online

Jann, what is that?

Check that link... Its not silkworms...;)

Takes me to some kinda interesting blog/news/club page. Don't quite know what it is!?!?:)

I think that was suppose to be silkwormshop.com
Good products but more expensive than MulberryFarms. I've tried both. I'd go with Mulberry Farms unless you could find someone local with extras.

the silkies from mulberry farms, came in a plastic container (if i remember correctly, it's been a bit) and then i transferred them to a clean, long, shallow tupperware container where they stayed and i could feed them with chow and clean up after them much easier. though i did buy 100 so there were a lot! they were good silkies too!!

The pheonix worms look like they would be perfect for my cham, but the smallest worms they sell of those come in 3 inches, which is close to half the size of my rudis . Guess silk worms will have to do the trick.

And does the silkworm chow really make a difference for the worms in terms of gutloading? Or should I just use apples and the like?

You can not feed Silkworms anything but chow or mulberry leaves. Pheonix worms are never larger than 3/4 of an inch, you may have been looking at butterworms. Pheonix worms do not eat anything and do not need to be gutloaded. You can find both pheonix and silkworms at Mulberry Farms. I feed both of these worms to my Rudis, though technicaly pheonix worms are magots not worms. (But they are not gross to touch)

While silks diets are quite limited to mulberry leaves and chow, they will survive for quite some time on shaved carrots, in the event that you run out of chow/leaves. As for the pheonix worms, they are the maggot of the black soldier fly, and are a supreme feader.:) He might have confused the wax worm with a phoenix worm , as they are almost identical in appearance, yet quite different in texture.;)

Do you guys use a dish to feed your worms?

Depends on the worm... Horn Worms and silks I just place on a branch or vine. Supers i place on the side of the cage, the wiggling will entice your chameleon. In my free range I'll place supers on a vine and keep an eye on it to make sure Lenny or Henry eat it before it falls off.

Or I just hand feed the worms.

I don't think the worms move enough in a cup to really get the attention of the chams or mine are just picky..
