Hi All,

Just before I got Simba out and gave his cage a good clean (and rearrange)
I noticed this on his belly.

Looks like a bruise, but can't help wonder if it could be a burn as he sometimes climbs on the mesh right under his basking lamp??? Apart from this he's his happy bright green colour.

I've rearranged his cage with a new ficus and changed his basking vine for a branch lower down so he might be less tempted to climb up right under the light.

Is it best to just leave these to heal on their own?

I've just left him now to explore his rearranged enclosure :D

He sometimes climbs on the mesh directly underneath his basking lamp.

I've moved his basking branch down to try and discourage him from climbing up.

Is there anything else I can do for it? Or should I leave it to heal on its own?

Move the lights up off the top of the cage and get some Silvadene Cream to put on it. I get the Silvadene from my vet but you might be able to find it on the internet.

OK will do, thanks, but I'm convinced its a bruise as his lights have been in the same place for 4 months with no ill effects, and it looks similar to some other pics on here where it has been indentified as a bruise.

It doesn't seem to bother him, just looks horrible against his happy green.

Some better pictures would be helpful. If it's a bruise it should go away in a few days. The Silvadene Cream want hurt even if it's a bruise.

I know, my camera is pants!!! Will try n get the cream off the net as I KNOW it will be cheaper. He's not gonna like the idea of me puttin that on!!! LOL

Will keep a close eye on it over the next few days.

Thanks Jann xx

He's growing so fast....check out my thread on him being outside today :D

IF you cant get the silvadene cream which you should be able too there is a local reptile breeder in my area that works with the detroit zoo from time to time and he swears by A&D ointment. I have used it once or twice when out of silvadene and it has done the job.

Edit: It looks to me like a burn as well.

I think you're right!! (about the burn)

He's done it again too!! :( Next to the first one...You'd think they'd have more sense, climbin up near hot things when you've already been burnt!!! I'm devastated as I thought his setup was ok, and like I say he's been fine for months!!!

Can't find Silvadene ANYWHERE!!! Does anyone know of a suitable alternative from the UK??

I have bought a lamp clamp and moved his basking lamp right off the cage. It doesn't rest on the mesh anymore, which I think is what was making it hot, and in turn injuring Simba :(

Will post pics later today. Although I can't get decent ones of the burn. Will post what I have anyway.

Will it heal??? :confused::(

I've just read that A&D is a nappy rash cream? Also used for tattoos.

Over here the brand recommended for both is Bepanthen?? Will that be ok?

I think It looks like a bruise. My male veiled Kink somehow caught his tail on something in his cage and bruised it> it looked the same. I put Kink in the shower for like 20 minutes and it made the bruise go away some... just a thought.

I would recommend a vets visit for a new cham check up and get your Silvadene there. You want to make sure it doesn't get infected.
