Brown Paper Bag

So im going home for thanksgiving tomorrow it is a 5.5 hour car ride and most of you seemed to think that a brown paper bag with a paper towel on the bottom is the best way to go. Is that correct? If i close the bag to make it nice and dark with my veiled be able to breath?

I had to take my cham with me last weekend for a several hour drive. On the way up I left her in her cage and covered the whole thing with a towel, but that definitley did not work. She was scratching at the cage the whole time..she was very upset. That weekend I heard of the paper bag method, and used that for the ride home. it worked much better. I sealed the top of the bag so it was dark, and she slept the whole way. Even when I got home and went to put her back in her cage she didnt wake up till i touched her. She seems much less stressed with the paper bag.


How big is your cham though? Mine is just a baby so she fit in a paper bag just fine. But if they are big im not sure how well that will work.

Romeo is a three month old veiled, he is about 10 inches in total length, i think he will fit fine in a something like a large brown grocery bag..

Pablo hated the paperbag method when I was taking him home from a show, but he was probably equally stressed (maybe a little less) by putting a sheet over his cage and transporting him that way. I don't think they like to travel much. LOL!

I've also heard the shoebox method mentioned on here. Good size for an adult cham, and will hold a nice fluffy hand towel.

Howdy,

I've used a ~1cu.ft. box with cloth padding and bendable vines on the bottom. I try to give them plenty of quiet-time in the box so that they can fall asleep BEFORE leaving.

hey guys just got home, Romeo has been in his bag for over 5 hours now and even when i opened the bag to check on him he did not wake. its late now, 1220 am, so im just going to leave him in there until morning. thanks for all the help!
