broken leg

Hello all!

I was hoping for some help or advice from some more experienced cham owners. I have had my female veiled cham for about 5 months now, she is about a year old.. She has been fine up until about last sat. She was dropped by someone, not me, trying to put her back in the cage. She stayed on the ground for a little bit but was back up in the branches the next day or so. I have noticed her fall since then. The last two days have been spent on the floor with minimal movement. At first I thought she may need to lay eggs but i just noticed today that her one back leg is funny. It seem like she has an extra joint. Idk if it is dislocated or broken... Idk if I should let it heal or take her to a vet. I am not sure if the problem is related to her eating habits. I just started offering her mealworms about two weeks ago. She was in the cage for 2 days with crickets and did not eat a one but the min I put the worms in there she gobbled them up and pooped. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

If you look close at the pics you can notice a 2nd bend above the knee

One word. VET. Also, next time you might want to make sure the person holding the chameleon knows to let it climb off itself, not drop it. I don't like letting others hold my chameleon.

From those pictures both limbs look like she has MBD which is a bone disease. The fall may have broken a limb. Fill out the information about your care and setup. There is a form on the top of the health section. I hope she has a speedy recovery.

It is sort of hard to tell in those pictures as well. So I could just be seeing it differently I guess. Hopefully I am wrong and she just has one sore leg from the fall. Most healthy chameleons with strong bones should be able to take a small fall here and there though. So fill the form out and you get more detailed help from everyone. She does also look pretty big in the first pic. Again to blurry but if you think she is carrying eggs she more than likely is. You can probably tell better in person.

Yeah I know. I was pissed when I saw it! I turned my head in just enough time to see her dropping off the branch. It was no more then a 12 inch fall but still.

Would the MBD show in the eyes as well?

What's wrong with its eyes?
What are you going to do with your chameleon?
Can you fill in the questions in the "how to ask for help" thread at the top of the health forum please?

The leg is in bad condition. A vet is needed to properly diagnose and treat what ailments she may have. If your Cham has mbd then the fall is what made it apparent. A healthy came should be able to withstand a small drop with no injury. Please fill out the 'how to ask form'. I'm really sorry to hear about your situation.

Hello, welcome to the forum :) Here's the form to fill in, but she does need a vet whatever else you do.....

Here is some recommended information to include when asking for help in the health clinic forum. By providing this information, you will receive more accurate and beneficial responses. It might not be necessary to answer all these questions, but the more you provide the better. Please remember that even the most knowledgeable person can only guess at what your problem may be. Only an experienced reptile veterinarian who can directly examine your animal can give a true diagnosis of your chameleon's health.
