Broken leg

Hello guys,

My chameleon suddenly not using one of him first leg (for 3 days now). He has a big bump at the leg curve (sry for my english). I asked a professional breeder and he said my chameleon have a broken leg. And i think that too. He could felt down and broke his leg.

My question is how long it take to his broken leg heal up without any help? Becasue im scared his bones will heal up badly without splint. I will take him to the vet but i can only take him earliest at wednesday.

What do you think guys?

It might not be broke yet. Bones without enough calcium will swell like that as a last effort to keep from breaking. Odds are you will need help with your lighting,d3, and calcium.

T5 arcadia, reptivite 2x a month, calcium without d3 every feed. ( every other day i feed him). So i dont think this is the problem.

We would need other picks. Even with proper care supplement problems can arise. It doesn’t look broken, but swollen. It may be gout.
We all hate these problems because we are doing what we should and it still happens.
Only a good reptile vet can say. If a vet is not an option. I would stop supplements for 1 month, he has had proper care so he will be fine without for a month. Cut back on food and see if it helps. If the swelling goes down you may have your culprit.

How heavily are you dusting the insects?
What are you feeding the insects? What insects are you feeding the chameleon?

You've been concerned about other legs before....are the other legs ok now?

I take him to the vet 100%. Xray will help to decide if this is gout or else. Gout would go to all the legs, wouldn't it?

When i dusting only with a little amount to give the insects white coat. I feed my insects the day before my chameleon eat. Orange, carrot, chinese cabbage.

He eats dubias, superworm(not that much) , waxworm(not that much), cricket, black soldier fly larvae, he ate turkestan cockroaches but he dont like them anymore.

I took more pictures, but its hard. I attached 2 hand picks, these are 15-20 day olds. Other ones taked today or yesterday.

It's hard to see for sure in your photos but something is definitely going on with the legs...some slight deformities and swellings. I think the vet is your best bet....just make sure it's a vet who knows all about chameleons.

I don't really know much about gout. But no it does not necessarily effect all joints. It does not go away, but can be managed. The deposited uric acid will always be there once deposited, so hydration and supplementation become more critical. Through managed supplements, feedings and making sure hydration is good we can keep the flair ups to a minimum. (swelling is a sine of flare up)

That is pretty much all I have for sure at this point. It would take a vet and x-rays to determine the best course of action.

Thank you very much guys for the tips and helps. There is not much exotic vets so i hope i go to the right one. But the xray cant go wrong. I will post there if i think the vet not that good.

I'm still seeing bone deformities or possibly breaks...especially in the arms.
I asked many times in this group about his front legs because of this. I think that too he have weird legs. And everyone said its perfectly fine, but i think the same he have some problem with his legs.. I hope the xray will help.

Pictures of his leg when he is younger.(1-2 month)

I was away for your other posts (no internet) ...just looked at them today....or I would have posted about the legs then. Sorry.

Ofc the regular and the right ones. I use with d3 one and 12% one. I spoke about that with Beman and the uvb at the right distance from his basking branch.
