I ordered some blue bottle spikes for the first time and when they arrived today, I noticed the package/substrate smelled of ammonia. Seems I remember seeing a post somewhere on here that said if it smelled they needed to be put in fresh substrate. Can someone with more experience let me know if I need to freshen the substrate, and if so, the best to use? I plan on keeping them in the fridge and only taking out what I need to pupate, and thought sawdust would work for that purpose. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
