Black toenail?!

The photo is a bit blurry but it looks like the original toenail was damaged and the black is either a little piece that is new growth or a bit that didn't break off.

I'd just keep my eye out for infection in the toe as a result.

Looks like the nerve ending and the nail broke off. I say this because I've seen it on dog nails.
