Big Problem...

The reason i got chameleons in the first place is because there such unique reptiles that need alot of care and responsible love.
My second reason was because i wanted to start breeding them the right way.
MY HUGE problem is that 4.5 months in, im like 90% sure the genders arent as what i thought this whole time.
I bought them from Petsmart when they were only 2'' big and the employees told me they were male and female.
Well im now positive there both males and iv been hinted by "her" by the last week.
There housed seperately now and im bummed ill never be able to breed them anymore.
About 3 days ago i was watching whom i thought was the "female" chameleon bask on her hammock and realized that her vent slit was pulsating and suddenly i saw what looked like a sperm tag poke in and out several times which threw me off completely.

Reasons i thought he was a female were:
1) Very light lime green color daily...no vibrant coloration.
2) Light blue spots all along her body.
3) Gentle Personality.
4) Was never territorial

Reasons i now think "he" (really) is a male are:
1) Spurs on back legs just like the initial male.
2) Sperm tag incident

Anyone with some insight on my unfortunate situation id really appreciate!!
Thanks Everyone

Are you 100% sure they aren't male and female?
Do they both have spurs on the back of their feet now?
You can sex them at birth that way and at 4.5 months you can sex them 100% accuratly.

Maybe you should post some pics of the feet maybe they are male and female :)

If they are both boys I'd keep the most promising looking of the two
and go and see if the pet store will exchange one for a female.

Also, if this is your first chams I'd get like atleast another year of experience under my
belt before I bred, baby chams are super fragile.

Don't give your chameleons back to petsmart or whatever.

There should be no hammock in the cage. They use perches and branches/plants, not hammocks.

Pictures of both the chamelons and their feet

this is the one we thought was a female

Both very handsome males but I would not take one back to the PetSmart. If you decide to re-home one use the Classifieds section here.

If you dont want to give it back to the pet shop and get a female or get your money back because you feel bad about leaving it there,
the sell it to some one that has knowledge about chams and can
provide for it.

Either those two things or keep em both and love em both :)
and buy a female after you get some more experience.

Thanks

Thanks a lot! I thought they were both males the way they were acting but then they kept trying to mate well the male especially but the one we thought was a female didn't want anything to do with him lol.But I'm keeping both of them I just was excited because I thought they were going to produce little chams :) but I love them both too much to get rid of one.
