Big leaf schleffera?

I know schleffera plants are safe, but there are a thousand species of them.
I had a golden leaf schleffera as my last plant, and it worked great, but the cage I'm buying won't fit that one.

That's the one I bought, it's a species of schleffera, but it doesn't say the name of it on the tag, just promo. I'm just wondering if anyone has any input on if this would be okay?
I tried searching the forums, but all I could find is umbrella plants, which this is not. Thanks so much !

Yup , its listed as toxic.

Schefflera actinophylla is a commonly found plant that is often confused with Schefflera arboricola. It is not unusual to find the two plants sharing the same common name. Unfortunately, Schefflera actinophylla is too toxic for use with captive chameleons. This is a good example of why it helps to know the full scientific name of the plants you are looking for.

I use the toxic umbrella and get this the veilds eat the crap out of it i mean they really like it and i have never had any problems at all.

The umbrella plant is a safe plant. I think I've heard of a lot of people using those here! Haha

It may be possible its just fine. I have seen some skin issues that were believed to be related to a broken branch and sap. Not positive. Could it be that the problem could occur over time if ingested? Who knows. I try to err on the side of caution. I would rather warn than advise to use it.

Dermatitis: The juice, sap, or thorns of these plants may cause a skin rash or irritation. Wash the affected area of skin with soap and water as soon as possible after contact. The rashes may be very serious and painful. Call the Poison Control Center or your doctor if symptoms appear following contact with the plants.

Isn't the aboricola the umbrella plant?
I have the aboricola, or the golden leaf schleffera, and that's aboricola as well.
I have never noticed any sap from mine, and my veiled never ate it when I had him, I just love the vines they produce.

Arboricola is fine I use them in many of my cages. It's actinophylla you need to be cautious of.

Thems be my favorite viv plant!
I have one giant one for my 48"
and I just exchanged the plant this thread is about for a smaller one.

oh man, that sucks! I got a nice big one from home depot a few weeks ago, already replanted in organic soil and was excited to use it because it is a perfect plant to provide cover and good climbing area for a chameleon, bummer Guess I have a new house plant, lol

Schleffera actinophylla

Not only is this species of questionable safety, but you can see a heavy white coating of greenhouse sprays and hard water spotting on the leaves. The sprays used in commercial greenhouses are deeply concerning to me as they can be seriously toxic to people and animals, way more dangerous than over-the-counter stuff consumers can buy. No one in the nursery trade considers that an animal might eat the residues of these sprays.

I always wash repeatedly with insecticidal soap and gently scrub until the white is gone from top and bottom of leaves before adding a plant like this to an animal environment.
