Better starter chameleon

Ok listen so i know that no chameleon is a starter but i have had lots of herps and have been looking for a good starter chameleon, so i was wondering if a veild is a good choice or is a pygmy leaf better, or visa versa and for what reasons, thanks so much

Both would make good starters. The advantage of the pygmies would be that they don't need as big of a set up as a veiled so it would probably be a lot cheaper, plus you can use a glass aquarium. But veiled chameleons are awesome too and they are fairly easy to care for.

both are good starters for meh

ya, i agree with what the guy above me said ;)

with pygmies, ya, u can put onemale with 2 females, where in veileds, only one per cage unless for breeding purposes when older....
with veilds, they are good beginning chams, cuz they are much hardier than the other exotix chams like panthers and etc...
but yes both are gr8 choices for beginners, but that doesn't mean you can take a level down on taking care of em.

but for me, i would get a veiled really, cuz of how big they grow into, and how beautiful they are, which makes friends and relatives that come over get jelous that you have one :D but now, im starting a bearded pygmies tank... cute little guys

As a person with 4 veileds, I can vouch for them. It is always a good idea to read up on their care first. http://raisingkittytheveiledchameleon.blogspot.com/

Pygmies require a specific kind of habitat and aren't as flexible as a veiled. Although I haven't ever had a pygmie I have read others comment about them. Perhaps if you do a search in the forum for pygs you can read what the breeders are saying.

Anyway, there are some folks here that are selling veileds. They are conscientous folks and you can be sure of getting a healthy cham. Go to the form "For Sale". You can IM them for information.

Vieleds are a very good idea I think, they are (using the word lightly) pretty easy to care for. read up on the link BocaJan posted it has all the information you will need. I got a vieled as my first cham and enjoy it so much im getting my second on monday! They are just awesome little creatures.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, its just i have everything for the pygmy leaf chams and they dont live as long as veilds so if i can care for the properly and everything then i will go ahead and purchase a veild, Whats your opinions on this?

Veileds and pygmies have very different requirements. I have lost alot of pygmies, but have not lost any of my Veileds. Veileds need large screen cages, correct lighting and temps, will eat just about anything! Pygmies need lower temps, glass cages, more specific humidity, and not always available tiny food items. Either one will require care several times daily. If you educate yourself on the care, you can be sucessful with either one. I just find pygs a bit more difficult since they are so tiny and can go downhill and die before you even knew they were sick.

thnaks you everyone, i have been researching veilds for about 4 years and pygmies only two years, but i think it will be a veild just because i think it would be a more rewarding experiance
