best way to get the humidity up in my enclosure

NW chameleon

Hi I have a new Jacksons chameleon and am wondering the best way to keep the humidity up in his enclosure. Right now I have a zoo med fogger set on a sensor and I also spray the cage a few times a day. but it seems that the humidity drops very quickly after i spray and the fogger seems to make the bottom of the cage humid but up towards the top the humidity drops to the mid 40's. My enclosure has glass on the front and back and bottom and screen on both sides and the top. I was thinking about getting a tropic air humidifier but was also thinking about a rain system or mister to go along with the fogger but the cage has no drainage on the bottom. I would appreciate any tips or ideas on the best way to set it up. thanks

Do you have live plants in there? That usually helps a lot. Maybe try misting it every now and then.

I would definitely wouldn't recommend you put any kind of substrate in there though, he could ingest it and choke or get parasites from the bacteria.

I have two live plants in there. one about the height of the cage and the other is a smaller fern. I also have a bunch of fake vines. I am using a mat type substrate. Is it possible to put a heating pad unter the mat so all the moisture that sits on the bottom of the cage will evaporate, or is there two much bacteria on the bottom of the cage?

I would caution against a heating pad. Warmth helps bacteria breed faster! Plus, you could risk injury to your cham. Tough to regulate these thing for temp variations! Maybe some plastic or acrylic to go half way up the sides to contain some moisture? Possibly a drip system into a plant higher up in the enclosure? One other idea could be some paper towels under the mat that you are using. Just make sure to clean and replace often;)! Sounds a lot like my set up, what's the humidity like in the rest of the room?

You can wrap 3 side of your cage with plastic, a shower curatin cut to size or ever a garbage bag will work.
I like to use sheets of coroplast plastic from the hardware store. cheap and easy..

the humidity near the bottom is about 70 near the middle is about 60 and up towards the top where he spends 90% of his time it is in the low 40's unless i mist or if the fogger comes on then it goes up to about 50 for about 5 minutes before it drops back down.

To me, this seems about right! Not sure if I would change much. Maybe just another session of fog? :)
