Best way to get cham out of enclosure???????

i was wondering whats the best way to get my female 6 month old veiled cham out of her enclosure so i can clean it cuz she trys to bite me when i put my hand in the enclosure???? and will she calm down when she gets out of the cage?

I would have a branch or a (sterilized) stick and lean it in the cage so it goes to the exit. When she comes out to the door place your hand in front of her slowly until she comes onto it. If she feels that you are intruding on her territory she will hiss and try to bite, just let her come out on her own.

thanks very much ...i will try that but she is sleeping right now is that normal i turned her light on at 9:30 am should i shut it off and what would be a proper basking temp? i just want to make sure its right

Our male Ambilobe is really fresh. We put some gloves on when taking him out of his cage. He tries to bite but usually just threatens. But with the gloves on, it's OK if he does bite us. We put him on an extra tree while we're cleaning out his cage and he hangs out on there till he calms down and we're finished cleaning. Once it's time to put him back in, we put he gloves back on, pick him up, and he's in.

Make sure you're not grabbing your chameleon from behind, but your fingers up to it's chest and she should just step right on, then you can lift slowly and she'll bring her back legs up. That's how we handle our chameleons and it seems to work (even though Shooter tries to act like a tough guy).

EDIT: Lights should be on no longer than 12 hours. Our lights are all on timers. They go on at 9 and off at 9.

try opening the door and seeing if your cham will climb onto the door and then try putting your hand underneath its chin and see if it will climb on. How old is your cham and have you been handling it or trying to from the start? Also, using a branch for it to climb onto is also a good way to get the cham out of the cage. I did that at first but now I just open the cage door and it climbs out on its own and then climbs onto my hand. As far as the lights, as the other member stated you need to have the lights going for 12 hours and then off 12. They do not like any type of light to sleep. Cage temp should be in the 70's with basking temp around 85 or so.

lol thanks i love the name shooter...ya this female i just got yesterday ....i got two other veileds to male and female....but i was i was wondering if she so scared cuz not used to her enclosure yet.......she was great with me yesterday she was real friendly

If you just got her then she probably needs some time to adjust to her new home. Did you get her at the NY Reptile Expo? Because I'm thinking at the show with so many people all over the place and now all of a sudden she's home in a calm and relaxing place again, she needs a lot of time to adjust ya know? Just let her be for a little while, try hand feeding her, hopefully she'll come around.

yes i got her at the expo......alright ill leave her be she was drinking from my water bottle earlier havent seen her eat yet though and im thinking its just prob cuz she needs to adjust

Try setting up a feeder cup for her. Just take a cup that she can't see through and hang it in her cage (we use florist wire from Michael's for our cups). Show her the food you want to feed her, when she seems interested, like she is staring at it, put it into the feeder cup and walk away. That's what we've been doing with our new chams.

i put plant in front of his cage with the door open and he goes for it
