Best Starter Cham

I really want to get a chameleon that's very hardy, pretty looking, medium to large size, not too expensive to buy ( no higher than $150) and isn't difficult to maintain. I have all the right equipment a zilla tropical uv light (5.0 I'm guessing), a 28in L x 24in W x 48in H all screen cage, a spray bottle, a basking light, PLENTY of food, and plenty of vines and stuff in the cage. I was thinking a Senegal or Jackson's? Any other suggestions and other equipment I need?

Whatever type of chameleon you get, I strongly recommend you get a male. Females are a step up on difficulty. You want to learn the ropes with a male.

Veileds can be very aggressive, they can be very sweet. If you get him as a young chameleon and take your time getting him adjusted to you, it's probable you will have a chameleon that welcomes your presence and is willing to be handled. They're never going to be guinea pigs, but they can be quite nice.

I have 2 veiled chameleons and they have their days where they are cranky. But they have their days where they will gladly go on my hand and let me carry them. So i think it really depends on the chameleon.

I started with a veiled i think they are the best starter cham mostly because they are the most forgiving of husbandry mistakes, allowing you to learn.
They also need less humidity than jacksons, less misting, less prone to dehydration it seems.
They can be aggresive... but then so can, and are, most chams. It depends on the individual they have a lot of individuality.

opinion from another newbie...

just get it very young and from a breeder. I think you'll have better chances for a better handled chameleon from a caring breeder then a breeder that just breeds and sells to whomever or a petshop chain.
With that said I have a petshop rescue I cannot really handle at all. Which is a veiled but I also believe it is the most common chameleon out there that is getting such a bad rap.
I also have a sweet little baby from a caring breeder. He is a panther.

Good luck

I would suggest not using a zilla bulb.

Panthers and Veileds are the most forgiving and are extremely easy to find as CB.

Yep there doin great
