Best screen to use?

my idea with the 2 screens if you could imagine a door made or 2x2's with 1/4' screen with vinyl wrap on inside and 1/16'" metal screen on outside feeders could go through but the chams feet would be safe. its still an idea in the works. i also am looking for better one layer screen ideas, where did you see it online??
PS i already built the cage with the 1/4" on inside but my one now deceased cham would not cup feed so i was looking for new ideas thus the double cage idea. my other cham is an agressive eater anywhere i put a cup or even before get the cup into the cage so she will be fine with my current cages when done without the larger screen

Sounds like a good idea. My guys Cup feed but the crickets still manage to get out:rolleyes:. I liked some of the ideas I saw in some other threads. Putting a larger plastic fencing material inside the cage. It would be just like your idea, except the plastic mesh wouldn't be 1.5" from the screen.

Hubby wants to build a 6ftx6ft cage but he wants to powder coat the metal frame. Is this safe?

The perfect screening for Chams in the 1990's was used in greenhouse windows. It allowed more UVB/UVA through, and was golden colored. In addition to the advantage of better light penetration, it was the same mesh size as aluminum screen, but it was SOFT so as the claw went into the hole, it expanded. I built and sold about 30 cages, and used them myself, and no feeder ever ate their way through it.

All that being said, I bought it in 100 foot by 4 foot rolls, and it put my screen cost per 2x2x4 foot high cage at about twice that of aluminum screen. I would estimate an extra $40.00 per 2x2x4 cage. It was a little harder to see through than aluminum screen, but WAY better than small mesh cages made with coated wire or plastic.

I shipped this material from California I beleive, but don't have any further info it has been 20 years, but you might be able to Google and find it.

Hope this helps:D
