Problem: I have just returned from a 4 day vacation. My mom stayed and watched oliver. I left food for him in his cup, already dusted but im thinking he didn't get all of the supplements he needed. I usually take him out every day in the sun and hand feed him, but my mom just made sure he had water and such. The problem is he is missing his roaches,
:( He will take one shot and miss but then get it on the next try. He won't stop trying but about 4 of the 7 roaches i fed him today he had trouble with.
So im figuring its probably a calcium deficiency or Vit A (but thats just from what i have read :( ).....SO should I go ahead and order hornworms or something else???

Also if you think its not a supplement issue, please help me! I want the best for Oliver :(:(

If your guy gets a lot of natural uv then I think you should use plain calcium without d3. I know all in one has small amounts but if he's outside a lot then he wouldn't need as much.

You could stand to improve on your gutload. There's a great recipe for dry gutload here https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/sandrachameleon/575-january-2012-dry-gutload-recipe.html

If you have a good gutload your chameleon will get a good amount of natural vitamins.

All I can say on the tongue issue is pretty sure I read it was to do with vitamin or calcium deficiency but I will need to double check!

please help?

I wouldn't worry about a few days of missing supplements. If his feeders are well gutloaded and he gets back on a normal supplementation schedule he would be fine. Think if supplementing as something to balance over time, not day to day. The effects of the dusts is cumulative, so a few days shouldn't really matter.

I recommend some vitamin A. I still supplement the old fashion way with Rep Cal and Reptivite. The Reptivite has vitamin A in it and I also use a multi vitamin that my vet makes with vitamin A. I will link a blog from Dr. Alfonso below for you.

I have some Reptivite from the supplement package I initially bought. Should I just dust that on the bugs or what schedule should I use?

At his age you should use calcium without D3 at just about every feeding, calcium with D3 twice a month and Reptivite twice a month. Lightly dust your feeders so they don't look like ghost.

That makes sense, thank you! The first thing I did when I got home was to bring him outside, he still little enough where I don't feel comfortable letting other people bring him out. :)

I agree with Carlton and if he has a vitamin issue it did not develop in the 4 days you were gone cause your mom was watching him.

So can chameleons have some miss fires every once and a while? I assume I should watch him very carefully over the next few days.....but :(
Okay that would make sense because I don't think I was supplementing him properly the 1st/2nd month I got him, should I get some of the vitamin A supplement from repashy?

I mean is my best route a bee line for the vet or improve my gut load and watch him very carefully over the next few days?

I agree also. A vitamin deficiency doesnt happen that quick. Its just as likely is he didnt get enough water as he is suddenly missing a vitamin.
but adding a little reptivite or other vitamin source wouldnt hurt - or just feed your regular feeders with stuff that contains preformed vitamin A, if you convinced that's the problem. But read this first: https://www.chameleonforums.com/my-cham-has-tongue-issue-80739/#post764105

Okay so Im planning to order hornworms now and I'm about to go grind up some veggie/fruit gut load I can freeze and use that to feed with my bug burger and I have some dry gut load, is this all safe?

Apricots
Carrots
Apples
Almonds
(I want to buy some alfalfa)

And is cilantro, strawberries, blueberries and cherries good for them to grind up?
