So I visited a reptile rescue & breeding centre yesterday and they told me the biggest problem they had when taking on an enormous shipment of illegally imported chameleons was trying to separate 170 chameleons so they couldn't see each other or fight. Unfortunately, they lost them all...being smuggled in poor conditions was too much stress for the little guys. They tried though, & the animals would have been distroyed if they had said no to the shipment.

Anyway this got me thinking about where to put my future carpet cham so he can't see my veiled. If I put their cages against seperate walls in the same room and cover 1 side of 1 cage will that be enough? They will probably be able to see each other a little, judging by the angle. Do I need to make sure they're completely out of sight of each other?

If you put the cages next to each other with a divider between them it should be fine. After you quarantine of course.

I thought that would the best option, I'll have to shuffle around my furniture.

I forgot about quarantine- is this still important even though they're both CB? Sounds like he'll be living in a different room anyway in that case. I'll read the sticky on quarantine

It's a good practice to do. Just in case because you never know if the new one has a problem that could affect your current guy. Better to be safe than sorry. I know some people don't do it, especially with CB so it's up to you. I do it as a precaution because I would hate if something happened and they all started getting sick. Someone I know had an issue where he got two new chameleons and they got (probably already were but not showing it) ill, then another got sick, and I believe one more after that. They all passed away. I don't remember what it was but he was devastated after the vet confirmed they all had the same issue.

I see your point. It is a risk.
My boyfriend has agreed that the little carpet cham would be better in the spare bedroom, at least to begin with. I'm hoping to convince him my hedgehog would be happier up there too. They both need heating- it'd be easier to maintain the temp in a closed room. Also, the hedgehog, although very sweet, stinks to high heaven lol
