Beginer to Chams

Hi,

I'm looking into getting a Blue Bar Ambilobe Panther Chameleon. This youngster that I want to look at is supposed to be 5-6 mos old. Does that seem acurate? By this age they should be sexable correct? Any ideas as to the sex? I would have thought male, but he hasn't colored up.

Hello GoldenChameleon,

Lucky you I was fairly active on CL when I was looking to adopt a cham. The pictures you have posted are the same ones used when the ad was posted a couple of months back, so I would request for some recent pictures. From what the seller told me, he was leaning more towards it being a female.

The sex is difficult to determine from those photos. That being said, if it is 5-6 months it would appear to be a female. If male no color has started to develop, otherwise the color says young female. I know this is not yet your chameleon, but if it is possible to get a picture from the side with the tail sticking straight out, we can help you better.

Thanks :)

ChamDE86, this Cham has been for sale for a while? I admit I've been kinda hoping for a male but that's alright. I'll see if I can get some more recent photos when the seller replies.

No problem! Where are you located, Golden? I could possibly introduce you to a local breeder I got mine from. :)

I see...you're a couple of hours away from Delaware. Breeder is actually in Maryland, so probably not worth the hassle.

There will be other chams out there. Do you have a setup ready to go? If not I would highly suggest it. It's always better to have one ready to go than have to scramble to set something up while you house your cham in the shower or whatever short term solution.

Now you have time to search the site for ideas and see what will work best for you. Good luck

Not yet, though even now and then a Cham (usually veiled) turns up in the classifieds with cage and all. So I was figuring on moving on one those situations (whenever a Panther comes up again) where the owner is getting completely out of it. I've also thought about going to a reptile show, though those tend to not occur anywhere in my area, and the idea of dealing with an online business and shipping a Cham kinda scares me.
