Hello! I got a Jackson on Oct. 22. Since there were no breeders I could find in Puerto Rico, I bought him at PetSmart. Here is the proof that he was not treated well at the store. The first pic was when I brought him home and the second one was a few days ago.

you can't even see his horns
he was worse before though. he was completely dark brown, like chocolate

link to the photo of now. he's bigger!
so that does prove that chain pet shops dont take good care for chameleons... but at least hes safe now :)

Lol i also bought mine from petsmart. Jajaja pa colmo he was grabing a leg and his horns... Yeah early sing of mbd but he stoped doing that with proper suplementation. Its just that in petsmart they give them calcium with D3 almost everyday -_-

Ahh jaja con razon. El mio tambien se agarraba las patas a veces pero lo para de hacer y se ve bien :) por fin encontre a alguien de PR con un camaleon jajaja

Yea, you have to be careful with supplements when it comes to these guys. The people that work with them on here usually recommend that multivitamins be given once every 4-6 weeks, instead of twice a month. When I had my Jackson's I supplemented him very little, and put more effort into his food for everything he needed.

You guys better be taking advantage of the PR sunshine! These guys do fantastic outside, I kept mine living outside in Florida for weeks or months if the weather was nice. He always looked his brightest out in the sunlight.

Thanks olimpia! :) and yup they are very sensitive to over sumplementation. thanks to everyone on this forum I learned quiet a bit. SO I THANK YOU ALL AGAIN!! Including you Olimpia ;) :D Also Camile try to feed him a variety of feeders not only crickets. As i read from many posters "variety is the key" Since I know that petsmart dont have any live worms there is one at Quebradillas that sells superworms and mealworms (should be fed only ocacionaly cuz they fat and high on chitin wich can cause impaction lol) Superworms are better than mealworms cuz they are less crunchy XD From january onward hes gonna get dubia roaches, wich are great :) If you want the info let me know Ill pm you with it. Also theres a site that can ship silkworms to PR, mostly eggs can make it trough USPS fine without being caught. Cuz you would need to have a permit from the Fish and Wilderness of PR to get them. (You can also call them and get the permit, its free) Im working on it my self. Silkworms are really good to give them more than ocacionaly. I got a batch of eggs last weekend and im waiting for them to hatch. Ill try to farm lots of eggs. :) One of the awesomeness of taking care of chams (wich i didnt know when i bought Kami) was that to raise them you would also have to take care of many insects! In petsmart you wont find the calcium without D3, you have to get it online, I got mine at ebay. Heres a quote of another member that helped me. His one of the many knowledgeable with jacksons "xanthoman"

"hi kami , because of my prehistoric internet connection i was only able to view the first pic so based mostly on your text here is what i would suggest.

for basking all he needs is a 15w clear fridge or oven bulb. i would leave the humidifier off at night or put it on a timer so it only comes on for 15min or less every hr.

one of the best things you can do for his health is get him regular outside daylight. if you can manage to get him 3 hrs a week, you can do away with d3 all together, and just give plain cal 1x-2x a week. if he doesnt get natural sun all the d3 he needs is a single dusting the size of a matchead for about 4-5 feeders once every 7-10 days. i can guaranty you that giving him d3 4x a week will cause serious, probably irreversible problems in the near future. he shouldnt have any supp including plain cal more than 2x a week. and never 2 days in a row.

imo, he would do better if you got him a schlefferra or other cham safe live lush green plant for the inside of his cage . it should occupy at least 2/3 the cage. also they like to be up high, so try to get the top of his cage about 6' off of the ground.

imo, the 2 most common problems is over supplementation and poor diet . cricks are a terrible feeder i would recommend using them only for purposes of supplementation, imo, he should be on a diet of mostly roaches, house or bottle flies, sikworms and bsfl at minimum.

roaches and flies are easy to raise, so feel free to repost or pm if you need help. jmo"
Hope this helps!
