I have this question. Since its so hot at night and my cham cage is between 80's and the 90's and i turn off all his lights and water at 8:30 p.m. everynight for him to go to bed, should i mist his cage before he goes alseep or thats only during the day time since the lights are on? thanks

I was just about to ask this question myself.... I have actually been briefly misting mine the last couple days after he's gone to sleep just to try and lower the temperature a little bit. Hopefully someone more experienced will let us know if this is ok or not.

I just check his cage right now and he is alseep, but it's 89 degrees right now. Even if i have the a/c on its at least 79 -81 degrees. I hate southern cali weather.

ya i live in south florida and my a/c is usually set at 76 but my room is upstairs so i think it's a little hotter. I would love to get my night temps in the low 70's but my guy seems fine. I dont think there would be any harm in doing the night time misting for that purpose but hopefully someone who knows will chime in.

Assuming theres not a sharp drop in temperature overnight and the enclosure dries out
I cant see it doing harm, but it dosent sound very effective either.
When you say 80's and 90's do you mean ambient temp hits that throughout the cage? no cooler spots?
That is getting a little warm for a young veiled like yours from all accounts, but equally people say veileds can tolerate a fair varience in temp. That said, its ambient temp and due your current weather, aka constant (whats it like in the day?) then I would personally seek to rectify that more permanantly.

Simplest would probly be cooling the room its in, by use of a AC or fan (but no draughts on the cham directly) if possible. To my thinking, it would handle such temp varience better if you afforded it better ventilation in your climate, Aka a screen cage.
Larger caging may also assist (better thermal gradient, heat rises, cooler near floor) (*bare in mind, not so large your cham cant find its food)

Glass tends to hold ambient warmth in warm climates. Sometimes cooling can be as big an issue as warmth with reptiles. I have similar difficulties here in summer, my turtles find themselves swimming with frozen water bottles! (still in tanks).

Barring the above suggestions, perhaps adding another leafy (safe) plant, and misting that during the evening (if you can do so without disturbing the sleeping lizard) may help,
air cooling via water evaporation, but again its probly an inefficient means. Barring a screen cage,
Cooling the room itself if you can is probly most efficent.

:)

Note: This is just my opinion, formed from personal hands on experience with my own young veiled last summer, Im sure somebody wont like it and will have a tantrum, but what can you do.:)

Thanks. I don't own a veil i have a graceful. I have the a/c on at night and when i wake up in the morning his temp is at 75 degrees with the a/c on . He is upstairs in my room. And for some reason upstairs get more hottier so i'm constantly misting his cage getting from 95 degrees. Normally in the day time its at 81 degrees . buytafter 3pm when its hottier then day it gets to 95 degrees. He does have cooler spots in his cage that i see him go to, during the day. He is not directly by the a/c or a fan. He is on the other side away from all of the coldnest on my side. His cage is mesh. Okay thanks again. Again you save the day ;)

Thats right, I remeber taking about eyes, My mistake, must've been thinking of somebody else..(maybe its alcheimers?.:D)

Yep, heat rises, even in your house! Could you move the cage downstairs? this may prove a simpler and cheaper (AC all night) solution. :)

for some reason I was under the impression it was glass, (cant tell from your pics, can see screen top though) I assumed a solid bottom? I think I advised about a screened water catching tub? *shrugs* if the bottom is screen its probly easier to shove a catcher beneath somehow, more space inside for a nice plant that way :)

Best wishes :)

Hi i rather have my cham upstairs cuz there is alot of traffic downstairs . i live with 5 people and they are loud. lol And i don't want to stress out my cham. anything else i can do to keep him upstairs? Should i just leave the a/c on for a while until his temp changes to normal temp, or just keep misting away, even though i do it everyday 5 mintues 3-4 times a day. The only time he goes down stairs is either i clean his cage or he sun bathes out side.

I cant think of anything other than either leave the AC on in the day or/and open the window at night and let cooler air in.

I have the same problem.. I live in Arizona, and even at night our low's are around 82 degrees Fahrenheit, so I don't want to open my window or anything. We keep the a/c on 24/7, but the sun sets on my side of the house, which makes it extra warm at night. I live in a one story house, so there's really no where I can even move my chams. With fans, a/c, blinds, etc., there's not much you can do when it's 106 degrees out.

Well i would do is keep misting ur cham cage more than you should mist it. I notice that helps it bring down the temp. At night before he goes to sleep mist it to and shut off all lights then see if there is a difference. Thats the best advice i could think of . Sorry your having the same problem as me.
