Hey guys so Geordi came yesterday and I was just wondering how many hours a day he should be basking and if he doesn't will he be okay. He basked for about an hour today but has been hiding in his plant for the rest of the day.
they should generally be basking after they eat. if you just got him, his behvaior may be a little weird while he adjusts. its nothing to worry about.
but just incase you should fill out the "help form" and we can double check your setup to make sure everything is right
EDIT: Just saw your other thread regarding your enclosure. it seems pretty good so its likely just him adjusting......just monitor him but give him a few days to normalize
Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Veiled male, 4-5 mos, 2 days in my care
Handling - not since taking him out of the box
Feeding - medium Crickets tried offering a mealworm yesterday to no avail. 4 crickets in the morning bout an hour after the lights go on, I have seen him eat twice and the crickets disappear throughout the day. I let them crawl up the mesh. Homemade gutload with a bunch of fruits and veggies and grains, occasional tiny sprinkle of the fluckers dry gutload.
Supplements - Fluckers with D3 (havent used it yet, planning alternate sundays) repivite (also haven't used it) and repticalcium without d3 every feeding so far)
Watering - Hand misting with a spray bottle every 3-4 hrs. I have been seeing him drinking. EDIT: I also have a little dripper on throughout most the day.
Fecal Description - hasn't pooped yet (a concern) No he hasn't been tested for parasites.
History - He's very angry still and wont stand for being looked at. :C

Plants - A live ficus bejamina and an orchid, waiting for my rubber tree to get bigger to add that.
Placement - The cage is in our living room area, it is about 3 feet from a heater so that it is in the warmest location during the winter. the top of the cage is 5 feet of the ground, in a high traffic area (there's no where else for him to go.
Location - Missoula Montana.
Problem, Seen him eating and not basking, and he still hasn't pooped, hiding in his tree all day.
he probably will not comfortably bask for about a week, at least thats what mine did when he came..i was soo worried, but soon enough i saw him out and basking alot just suddenly after his first week, so give him time
Thanks for the advice guys, Geordi got a big belly full of crickets this morning and just basked for like 4 hours. I feel way better. Now he's exploring the cage. He's even showing some more coloration. I think that he's just super uncomfortable with us being in the room and up and moving. Every time I stop to check him out and see how he's doing he hides and watches me. Hopefully he'll come around to the point that he doesn't care if we try to look at him. Thanks again!
Well it only gets better, . He's now climbing the top of the enclosure and is showing some very promising patterns. He's so cute, but sooooooo skiddish.
