Is it normal for a baby veiled chameleon to sit under his basking light with his mouth open most of the time?my baby veiled will just sit under the light with his mouth open.

what are your temps? most chams do that to release heat because they ae too hot

Hey i know its not about the forum but how long does it take for a female veiled to turn receptive colors that lets you know shes ready to mate. my 10 month old female hasnt displade any bars at all:mad::mad::mad::mad:plus i hav a male and like i said she doesnt even have bars yet.

They dont show bars.. its the little blue dots and what not. The best way though is showing her to your male and see how she reacts. I'd wait till she's a year old.

As for the baby, your temps are probably too high.. a basking spot should be about 80-81 F

i would probably worry about getting your setup and temps right before you decide to start breeding...but thats just my opinion

wen i first put my female with another male she ran towards him with her mouth open and kept trieng to run to him but i held her back

Please fill that out. I can tell your chams might not be getting the right care.. Dont just say thanks, take the advice and fill it out. Sorry if I came of as rude.

rune is right...you said baby cham, if its really young, some people dont even use a basking bulb...if you dont let us help you, you could cook your cham...you owe it to you chams to give them the proper care

You should ABSOLUTELY know what your temps are... even before you get the chameleon(s). Come on man, be a good parent and take the precautions to not overheat your baby. Like others said, get yourself a temp gun or probe and make the proper adjustments. UYou really only need like a 40-60W house bulb, not a basking bulb. Please let us know
