basking temp question...

i have purchased a temp gun and am checking the branches where Stanley spends a great amount of time basking.. if i focus it on the various branches when he's not on them it registers around 80-82 degrees, but if i focus it on him as he's basking, it reads anywhere from 84-86 degrees.....

what are you supposed to go by, the temp of the area or the temp of the animal under the light?

thanks,, lisa

90 is too high u should keep it at 80 to 85 thats the basking spot..on other spots should be around 75

i understand that 90 is too high, it's never read that high.

my question is do you go by the temp measured when focusing on the branch, not by the animals skin temp even if it registers 2-6 degrees higher when he's laying on the branch?
