basking light

What do you guys use as a basking light? The whole setup.

i use a 150 watt uva bulb the thing you put the bulb in i use flukers. it comes with a dimmer.

I use a dome with a regular house bulb but make sure it's not one of the spiral light bulbs they with make them go blind.

I use incandescent bulbs in a regular clamp lamp from a home improvement store and then a tube UVB bulb. Its kind of a waste to buy those special reptile heat lamps when you can buy the same thing at a home depot for much less.

I use regular incan house hold bulbs and those deep reflective dome fixtures.
I take my thermometer readings with wired probe on the basking brance, 8
to 10'' from the lamp, and where the little chammie will be.

Incans are getting harder to find at the store, so I buy cases of 24.

I use 25, 40 and 60W.
I summer, need to replace them with a lower watt.

Yea, what are spiral light bulbs? I want to use a 5.5 reflector dome with a regular house bulb.

actuly i think spiral light bulbs are when you turn it on you see a line of light circleing in the bulb

The spirals bulbs are the compact flourescent type bulbs. They dont produce enough heat to be used for basking. Some of the compact types for UVB are fine to use, but i would research the bulb on the forums before using one.

Well, some brands have had issues previously, and some no-name types might be harmful (unless you can check it with a UV meter to make sure it is safe.) i dont know about normal spiral house bulbs though.

I was told over time they make your Cham go blind so I'm not chancing it

Yeah, they are very popular until LED bulbs start coming down in price.
They produce very little heat, hence, cheaper to operate.
They have their own little ballasts built write in them.

They last a long time too
