Im looking into changing all my basking lamps. Im curently using the Zoo-med basking spot lamp 75 watt. I was thinking to changing all of them to the repti-sun 5.0, it also offers 5% uvb. Is anyone curently using those? If not what do you use and how many watts? All your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Brian

thats a bad idea.
thos compacts have been known to cause lots of problems.
many people will yell at you kindly to not use thos.

give this a read.

i just use regular house hold lighs. i have a 40 and 60 watt.
depending on the distance you put them is going to change the temp.
the 40 is just for additional light and the 60 is a basking light
i have one basking bulb that is a 100 watt also that hasnt died yet
but when it does im not wasting money on basking bulbs.
im just going to get household ones.

Household bulbs work great! You do ALSO need a UVB source. Most will suggest the Zoomed Reptisun 5.0 linear flourescent tubes.

I have the Reptison 5.0 Floresent bulb on my cages. I just thought that having the compact as my basking lamp sounded good because it gives UVB also. Thanks for the help though I appreciate it.

The Zoomed Reptisun 5.0 linear flourescent tube is the most highly recommended bulb here. You can get it for half that price at LLLReptile.com. You should only need one per cage and one basking light-a regular household bulb in a clamp lamp works great! silentvoice190what are you currently using for lighting? Daytime shoud be the only time you are lighting or heating.

another alternative is the self-ballasted bulbs that give uva,uvb and basking heat, i know some people here dont recommend them but i think its all in your setup, my cham loves it and my last 2 did as well. i use a powersun 100w mercury vapor bulb from big apple herp, was like 30 bucks.
