Barrier for fruit fly escapes?

Does anyone know something that can be used as a barrier to keep fruit flies from crossing...for example, if they were in a storage container, what would one use to keep them from crawling up the side past a certain point and out. I know I've heard of people lining the top inside edge of things to keep roaches or crickets inside.

Thanks.

I use Olive Oil around the top of my bin... Apply it with a Q-tip

The fruit flies will not cross it for days.. Have to pay attention tho because after a few days it may wear off enough that the flies will cross it.. so you have to reapply.

She uses vaaaaa-seline :D! Bug Stop is a commercially available product that will out last most other home made ones, which have to be frequently applied to stay fresh.
