Banana Roaches

I need them...

Anyone know where I could order them online?

Or is any member nice enough to sell me some? :)

I just ordered from roach crossing because they sell the giant version. Ya if you just want feeder normal ones there are better prices. Kyle at Roach crossing sells 100 mixed (good for starters since they only live 2 months after turning green) for $36 shipped.

Nice. I wanted to try out the giant ones.

Not even sure if my cham will eat them lol.

Since you order from there i'll give it a shot. Just send him an email.

Just researching right now how to care for them. So far cork bark, big rocks, and substrate w/ high humidity is the way to go.

My setup:

18" long plastic bin 12" high
One side has 4" of 50% "bed-a-beast" stredded cocofiber brick stuff mixed with 25% vermaulite(SP) and 25% water crystals which tapers down to bar plastic 4" from the other edge.
Heating pad on just the hill side, bottom of hill is about 105f, with top of hill in upper 80's
upper half of the walls is covered in olive oil. If you use petrollium jelly it will just melt due to heat/humidity.

Substrate should be soaking wet (water crystals and verm help alot) and will dry out fast.
Food should be standard unchopped up cricket veg placed on the substrate, with a dry mix in a peanut can lid on the bare side. after 36 hours rotate the uneaten veg into the cricket/other feeder tanks. These things dont eat much at all.

For toys you can can grow a potho in the tank if it gets light, use cork from a bulletin board or paper towel tubes that you throw away every month. Cork is the best but i havent scored any 100% cork board yet, most has a thin layer of cork and then the rest particle board.

If everything works out you should have a massive amount of brown babies in the dirt 4 months after spotting your first greenie. PS the adults die off fast so dont get discouraged when you see dead green ones.

Wow thanks for the husbandry info.

I just emailed Kyle and asked what I would need to get started.

Do you use clean up crew insects? Thinking about ordering some pill bugs so I can keep the mold down somehow.

Can you take some pics of your set up? I noticed allot of people put holes w/ hot glued mesh to allow better ventilation. But i don't want roaches running through the mesh holes haha.

I'm always down to save a few bucks, so knowing toilet paper holders and such work is a plus.

Waiting on this email so I can get started and order some :)

Ill post some pics tonight. I would advise some cleaner crews (its why i rotate the veg chunks after 2 nights). Cleaner crews magically appeared in mine (lesser meal worms) but i would recommend some pill bugs.

Sweet, thanks.

I have about 30 darkling beetles. Could I use those w/ pill bugs?

Don't worry about the pics. Just when you have the time go for it. I suggest writing a blog article to help many others out :)

I ordered my green banana roaches from The Roach Crossing and recommend him highly. I ordered springtails and white isopods for cleanup. I find them really easy to keep - much easier than other roaches - no cleanup! And after a couple months my population EXPLODED. They do love cork bark!
