Bad manicure.

So I got red on my nails yesterday, came home that evening misted Frita, chopped up a raspberry and mustard greens and cleaned up the giant craptastic she left on her top vine. And that's when homegirl went crazy. She hissed at my hand. Wth?! So concerned I start checking her out closely and she literally Godzilla hisses again at my hand ( I usually stroke her under her chin) except this time she turned like she was going bite me. Then got her polka dots on. I was like waahhhhhhh?!!!?! She is sweet and loves me and never acts like this.

I think it's the red nail polish. My nails prior were natural gel color.

That or it has officially happened. My female veiled has grown up and is now a moody butthead that hates me and everyone else. She was so pissy. The dog days are over.

(Secretly hoping a polish change will make her happy, maybe she isn't into the Xmas cheer)

Consider where Frieda is from. Saudi Arabia and Yemen.

Suppression of women's sexuality in these countries is excessive and takes a toll on the psychological development of all women in these areas.

Frieda's reaction to red is perfectly understandable as red (think Scarlet Letter) is not to be worn in either a man's or a woman's attire in these cultures.

That's actually not true, Chamallen, red is traditionally a color for women in Islamic countries, and many wear red on their wedding day. However while the Qur'an does not prohibit men from wearing red a Hadith does. However, the line of thought now seems to be that red is alright when combined with a different color, such as in stripes. However, saffron-dyed clothing is still out, as is gold for men.

I think we can drop the constant comparison of aggressive veiled chameleons to people from Islamic countries.

To the OP, chameleons can see color and react to certain colors and patterns. Red and black seem to be two popular trigger colors, as well as high-contrast stripes.

ChamAllen,
lol your comment cracked me up. The human culture (in this case) does not transfer into the chameleon behavior. These are natural born instincts, not socially or culturally constructed..

My veiled are terrified of black cords and they have never seen a snake. They will climb on the cords and even sleep on them, but once the cord moves they just freak out.

lol Sounded good! :D

Black shirts do make her avoid the front of the cage too now that you mention it, minus the hissing. I have already scheduled a appointment to have the gel replaced. I'm now full neurotic Cham owner.

@chamallen- If that is the case she is offended by far more than my nail polish living in my house :)

Lol I think I'll take some butter worms with me and see if she can replicate them. Chunky loves butter worms.

I'm always talking about her. This is ms.pissy eating her snack. She gets one raspberry a day. I cut it up in fourths.
