back to the vet today - melleri with infected feet

If he started vomiting after starting a second antibiotic I would strongly recommend discontinuing the second one until you speak with your veterinarian. Some patients have allergic reactions to antibiotics and vomiting is one of the most common symptoms. I wonder if metacam is appropriate for use in chameleons as it is an anti-inflammatory but can be hard on the kidneys or at least this is the case with felines.

I wish it were that easy - he hasn't had the second antibiotic yet. I was going to start that yesterday but he vomited first thing in the morning so I thought I would wait until today to assess the situation rather than introduce possibly more stress to his system.

Karen, I'm so sorry your guy isn't improving. :-(. He's definitely getting a better life with you than he would have with the idiot that sold him to you. Wish I could have a few minutes alone with the dude to make his feet contract some sort of painful infection - then just watch him squirm!

As far as the painkiller, one Of my previous females had an injection of it after her surgery - but it was a pretty painful shot & her ankle -foot area got so sore from the shot she couldn't use that leg for a few days.

Hang in there. You're doing a Great job!!

The metacam I am refering to is oral, I've used it on several rescues without ill effect.

well, I don't think his problems are really due to his previous owner. she had him a short time and I think he came to her already in bad shape. Her biggest fault was in not knowing enough about chameleons to realize the problems he had and starting treatment before it got so debilitating. And not having the best living conditions for even a healthy melleri. She's not a bad person - just ignorant. Not that that makes me any less frustrated by the ignorance that let this beautiful creature suffer. I did talk to her about how bad off he is and more about keeping chameleons properly and options that would be better for her so hopefully if she ever decides to get another she will be a better owner.

thank you for the encouragement! you know how fragile they can be ... and they anxiety we can face caring for them.
