We've come a long way since then...luckily for the chameleons that we do keep in captivity.
When I got my one, the store I went into to buy my second one said why would you buy a chameleon... it will be dead in two weeks. You have to do this and that to keep them and they die anyway. I said maybe you should ask me how I'm keeping mine because the first one lived well over a year. The store would only bring one in for me if I guaranteed I'd take it no matter what the condition was. I know I contributed to the death of some and felt horrible about, it but I also learned quickly what worked.
People kept trying to hatch eggs WCs laid...but they were trying to incubate them like snake eggs. I thought since the eggs are laid in the ground wouldn't the temperature be lower and tried incubating them at about 74F and it worked..much to my surprise.
We still have lots to learn!
