Hey guys I recently purchased 2 veiled chameleons from my local pet store. (male and female) they look pretty healthy although the male looks quite a bit smaller. I did some research online and read that baby chameleons could be raised together but only till about 4 months before they would really start to get stressed out in which case I would purchase them both their on large terrarium where they would not have to see each other. right now their in a glass terrarium they have vines to climb on a basking heat lamp and a uvb lamp and i recently purchased the pro-mist 50D till it arrives i will just be spraying their home and keeping an eye on the humidity and temperature. im putting up some pictures of their terrarium any advice is welcomed. My only other experience is with scorpions and tarantulas.

I'm not nearly as experienced as most of the other keepers on this board but a couple things I noticed.

Loose that kind of UVB bulb and go for a flourescent strip type. Your risk serious eye problems for them.

Baby's realy like a lot of foliage, get some live plants (pothos, habiscus, ficus, etc) fake vines and practically fill it with foliage.

Everything I've ever read says NO to putting more then one cham in an enclosure, no matter the size of the enclosure. The wiser individuals on this site can confirm or deny that. I've never tried myself.

Don't forget a dripper, you're critter will appreciate the steady supply of drinking water.

Oh, I almost forgot. Manditory reading: http://raisingkittytheveiledchameleon.blogspot.com/

OK, were to start.

as the previous poster posted, PLease read the blog, replace your UVB bulb with a tube style reptisun 5.0 UVB bulb with hood lamp, the glass terrarium isn't a wise idea, especially considering the fact that it acts like a oven * depending on were you live , in the UK keepers have alot of success they have their methods*. in the US of A the screen mesh style enclosure is ideal.

While baby chams can be kept together up until about 4 months, it is ideal to seperate chameleons asap, the reason behind that is removing any unwanted stress and or possible physical damage to each animal, such as biting *tails and legs* it happens with babies.

the basking bulb for a baby doesn't have to range very high, usually you can use a basic house bulb 60-75 watt bulb, *60watt is what i use for my panthers*. keep an eye on the temps, baby vieleds don't need more then about 80F. anything hotter is a bit high. ambient temps can be 76-78 and night time temperature drops are important, make sure the lights go out for the night time hours and on during daylight hours. Yemens chameleons will tolerate temps as low at 60's @ night as long as they can heat up during the day. as adults they can tolerate very warm temps.

with babies, make sure they are well hydrated, real plants are important you do not have enough climbing structures in your enclosure. ad some pothos or a few ficus benjamina plants. this will up your humidity alot. also make sure you have a dripper for when you arn't misting 3-5 times a day for 5 mins.

thanx for your help

Ok so I ordered a chameleon cage from chameleonsonly.com and tomorrow im returning those light and getting the strip lights. I hope their ok in the glass terrarium till the new one arrives im also goin to plant store and getting ficus trees and panthos and also picking up a drip system. and also waiting on my pro mist 50D. thanx for your help guys. till then ill mist them good and watch their temperature so they dont cook in there. I live in Prescott Valley Arizona no humidity here but am in a high elevation and during summer doesnt get over 100 F and it snows in the winter. I will post new pics as soon as i get my new terrarium. :D

Whenever you get real plants, you should give them a nice long shower to wash them down, and then I also replaced the soil with organic soil (which can be bought at walmart)

i've been to prescott valley writh. it is so nice there. My uncle lives there. your chams will like it there but keep them warm at night when it gets cool. Is it still raining over there?

yea its monsoon season it be all sunny outside and hot and out of nowhere clouds form and it will start to downpoor. its in the mid 90s right now most days really dry.

You'll need 2 cages not 1 for 2 chameleons. Is there a reason you decided to jump in with 2 instead of just 1?

As said, the lighting needs to be changed to a tube lighting. It is important.

Your temps need to be closely monitored, those dial gauges don't work too well.

It was linked earlier, but it is a must read. It is both short and fully informative. It would be in your best interest to read it now and spot your problems now, instead of paying for them later. I know it really helped me, and still does.

Good luck.
