Baby rat feeders for trioceros melleri

Hey everyone!(TESTING) I just gave baby rats to my Trioceros Melleri s and they absolutely love it.I was just wondering if baby rats are a good food source,if they are how often should i feed them to my Melleri s.

Mellers do eat small mammals and small birds in the wild. I would use it as a treat but I would go with something the size of a pickie mouse. once a month or maybe twice should not hurt.

Any sources for this ? I know of birds but I haven't heard anything about small mammals. And additionally: A bird which can be shot by a melleri weighs nearly nothing and has nearly no fat

I sure do. Petr Necas book Chameleons Nature's hidden jewels pg175 "These Chameleons like to eat large grasshoppers, but can eat almost all common insects(flies, ants, etc), smaller chameleons (perhaps even young ch melleri), young mammals(baby mice) and even small birds."

This is a great book Liddy from KAMMERFLAGE KREATIONS has the new revised edition. Its 65.00 but is well worth it.

Great one. My English isn't perfect but the small word "perhaps" indicates that he has no proove for it. My knowledge about mice isn't perfect too but from what I know it's nearly impossible that a melleri and a little mice ever meet in the wild...

Since when do baby mice/rats crawl around up in trees? I doubt a melleri is going to climb down into a mouse burrow to eat the babies. Just my opinion. Maybe one to help one gain a little weight, or one after laying a big clutch, but I wouldn't feed them otherwise. They are just big blobs of fat. Not worth having a fat cham. Use some large roaches and large flying insects. They are much better for them, they can be gutloaded (some flying insects cannot,) and they can be fed more frequently.

This question comes up about every 4 months or so. Do a search, but look for "mice" instead of rats. You'll see the pros and cons for yourself. The general concensous seems to be "no", and you can find all the arguments there. I wonder how many people want to answer yet *another* thread about it.
