i picked up my panther (ambilobe red bar) on wed, so he's still settling in, he's about 3.5 months old. i've seen him at the basking spot with dark colours and elsewhere in the viv with light grey and dark grey bars.

problem is that i have also seen him looking very pale with no bars, just very light grey and he has been sleeping towards the end of the day 5/6pm, (lights on and off at 8am/8pm). i've also only seen him drink anything during his first spray in the morning, for the others he is hiding or asleep. (i have a webcam set up in the top corner so i can spy on part of the viv from out of the room) he didn't eat yesterday and only had 3/4 crickets today. i've literally only gone to the viv when i need to spray or feed. how can i make him feel more settled? i have been cup feeding and he doesnt seem interested in the cup, i had to drop crickets on the leaves in front of him today for him to eat, after he ate he went to sleep for a couple of hours.

temps go to 82-86 at the basking spot and about 72-74 at the bottom (he sleeps near the bottom on a ficus branch or behind a silk plant at the side opposite the basking spot)
there's currently just a ficus in there with one fake silk vine on each side and lots of branches/walkways that he's been using.

how can i encourage him to use the cup? he seemed to avoid going near it so i moved it and now he avoids it again (doesn't even walk near it, but when i moved it he walks on the branches where it was previously)

i just picked up a blue bar baby sunday
i would say take him the vet asap
my guy eats 10-15 crix a day and is very active throughout the day and the behavior you described is lethargic.. my last panther got like that gradually so i didnt think there was too much of a problem but he ended up dying 2 hours before a vet appointment
get a fecal test for parasites

He's probly fine. Chameleons get dark when they are basking, the darker colors absorb more heat. Sleeping at 5/6 is not really that bad hes either used to it and remeber he is still young. Eventualy he will probly cup feed, but for now also place some in the cage. I would not worry too much just keep an eye on him and let him be.

You can try placing the feeding cup in an area with dense foliage within the enclosure so he feels more secure? My baby blue bar ate right out of the cup from the first day and hasn't had any problems so far. I've got the cup fastened to the tree directly in the middle of the enclosure so it's in a central location and he always has to pass it when he moves around the cage. As far as the sleeping, I agree with the above mentioned idea that it's just because he's a baby. "Ichabod" will head over to his favourite sleeping spot between 6-7pm.

Sleeping anytime during the day is an indication he is having a problem. He should have his eyes open all day. You should make an appt with a vet ASAP and have a fecal done. He may not be absorbing the nutrition from his feeders as a result of parasite. The worst that could happen is you rule that out. Sleeping at around 6PM is fine. They will tend to find their spot before bedtime. You could adjust you light schedule to 7am - 7 pm. I try to match the natural light cycle and change it as the seasons change.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the cup feeding. Most of my guys hate it and prefer freerange food. I usually only cup feed roaches, and worms that cannot climb. I would concentrate on why he is sleeping. Worry about cup feeding later
