Hi everyone,

I am new to this site and in desperate need of your help. I previously owned a panther but unfortunately he died about 3 months ago. He was very precious and I really miss him. I have now acquired (a week ago Monday) a 7 month old male panther. The first day was great he seemed to settle in quickly and has been eating very well. However the only time he really drank a lot was on the first day, I strayed water on the leaves and he just kept drinking, now he doesn't seem interested and I am not sure how to get him to drink. His poop has a bit of orange in it so am worried he is dehydrated. I spray his viv 3 times a day and check the hydrometer and the humidity seems good. What can I do to improve this situation.

I am a little nervous after loosing Gandalf so really want to sort this out.

Thanks

Thank you so much for replying. I feel overwhelmed with information at the moment so not quite sure what to do. I have a glass viv with mest top(roof) with a 6% UVB light, (D3 reptile lamp), its a large viv with plenty of branches and vines and leaves for him to hide in, a heat lamp and night time heat lamp. Im not sure if the vits im giving him are correct but this was what I was advised to give him, Komodo dusting powder, its says on the, fine bottle that the ingredients are Vit A, D3 and E, spirulina, kelp, pure marigold, probiotic bacteria, yucca extract natural antioxidants, phosphorus, fine grade calcium carbonate, rosehip, yeast, dextrose alfafa meal, calcium caseinate, wheat flour (sorry, wanted to let you know ALL the ingredients). I dust his food with this everytime I feed him but am worried that this is incorrect after reading a lot of the blogs on this website???? I need to get this right !!

hi there welcome x

just a few questions if thats ok hun

what temp does the vivarium read at night without the night time heat lamp?
i only ask this as he would only need one if the temp was below 60f

the supplements he needs are
calcium without d3 every feed - but do not dust with this on the days you dust the other 2 beow.
calcium with d3 twice a month
multivitamins twice a month
only lightly dust.make sure they dont look like ghosts.

do you make sure his vivarium fully dries out before you re-spray and before bedtime?

due to the orange urate i would put him in the shower on a plant and point the shower at the wall so it gives off a mist.let him have good drink and see how his urate is next time.

Hi there,
Thank you for replying. I switch his night light on but its only kicks in if the temp goes below 60F and always make sure his viv is dry before I respray. I had Gandalf for nearly two years and am now very nervous that I might do something wrong as the vets weren't certain why he became ill. My vits seem to be all in one not sure I will have to go to the pet store and get separate vits tomorrow. I will try the shower but don't sure how to do this as have never done it before, do you just let the mist fall on him or does he have to been under the shower, sorry sound like a complete idiot!!!!!

whats the name of the supplements you have??
there are a ew all in ones out there but i cant say i have ever tried them.although i may try the repashy calcium plus soon.

no dont put him under the shower.point the shower head at the wall so a small amount of fine mist of water sprays off onto him and the plant.give him a little while and he should start drinking.some dont like it but some love it.
make sure the water is barely warm.he can be in there for upto 45mins
you dont sound like a complete idiot at all.its great that you are asking x

Hi again,

Its called Komodo, I was advised to use it by the pet shop but am not sure now as its got calcium, vit A and D3 in it and since your not supposed to give them all everytime you feed them I think I should get individual vits instead, at least then I will know Im doing it right.

Will try the shower tomorrow and hope he likes it, its really stressful knowing he is not drinking.

Thank you so much for you advice I really appreciate it, :) x

is this the one you have? http://www.exotic-pets.co.uk/komodo-calcium-with-vitamin-d3.html

if so its fine but you also need calcium without d3 and multivitamins.

if this is the one you have then it should only be dusted twice a month.
the calcium without d3 needs to be dusted every feed and the multivitamins need to be used twice a month also, but make sure you dont dust the calcium without d3 on the days you dust the other 2.

yeah give the shower a try.he may not like it at first but see how he goes.
my cham came to me with orange urate.10 mins in the shower sorted him right out lol.

you are very welcome.let me know how he gets on with the shower and if his urate improves ;) x

Hi

Its similar to that but just says Insect Dusting Powder, I read the ingredients and it says that it has Vit A, D3 and E ect. Oh dear not good will have to sort this first thing tomorrow, thank you for sorting this for me, why I was given the wrong info by the pet store.?????

Yeah will let you know about the shower, fingers crossed it works ;)

Thanks again

that ones fine for fortnightly use.you just need the other 2 i mentioned.take a look around for some other brands.repashy are great but i use zoo med calcium with and without d3 and reptivite multivitamins.
most pet shops lead owners down the wrong path.just glad you found here.

and your welcome :)
