Baby isn't eating

Fruit flies are very simple if you buy an already established tub there's literally nothing you have to do (I always add a bit of fruit), but they are one of the hardest for me to prevent occasional escapees.........especially when messing around separating them to make new home made cultures
Ok, perhaps we'll take a crack at it. Fruit flies are way less creepy than crickets anyway.

Also, if anyone's interested in changes we've made to the tank over the last couple of weeks, Ben (username is Benj on here) made a couple threads a while ago in the Health Clinic forum with some different information than the stuff I posted yesterday. We have been tinkering.

I would definitely give him some Repta Boost a couple times a day to supplement the couple of feeders he's eating. I use is on my sick and old chameleons.

How did you administer the treatment? Did you have to pry your cham's mouth open? Turbo's so tiny, I'm not sure how to go about giving him the Repta+Boost.

That looks like you were advised to cool him down and give plain calcium two weeks ago as well.

I give the Repta Boost with the syringe that comes with it but my guys are adults. For a little one I'd use a small syringe with no needle of course. You will have to open his mouth and put in a small amount at the time so you don't aspirate him. To open his mouth I pull down gently on the chin until the mouth opens and with my other hand use my thumb and index finger to keep it open.

You need to make changes fast. You baby looks really bad in the pictures. I hope he makes it.

Used some of the Repta Boost today. I tried pulling his mouth open, but I was too worried about hurting him, so Ben let him crawl around on him while I dabbed Turbo's nose every time he opened his mouth. Got quite a few drops of the solution in, as well as some water. We're going to try again tomorrow. He really liked the Repta Boost. Must be tasty.

Sounds like a good method, and if he's enthusiastic about getting something into his mouth that is a good sign :)

Managed another successful Repta+Boost treatment today. He seems a little better, but then again, it's hard to tell with only two treatments.

Either way, I think a vet visit is in order for Tuesday, if only to pillage some better syringes from them. I have about a half-dozen little syringes kicking around, and they all have the same size opening on them.

I don't suppose anyone has a recommendation for a good herpetologist in British Columbia in the Okanagan Valley? I'm in Kelowna, and there's three in town, but two deal strictly with beardies, and after two failures I'm scared to try the third.

The one vet we went to told us to increase his temperature. As all of you have given me crap for having high temps in the cage, you can imagine why I might be unimpressed with his advice.

Hmmm, did the vet have a good look at him and ask details about your lights and temps? Increasing temps is a standard way to help fight infections, and should increase appetite too, but it won't help if the guy has his eyes closed all the time.......
A range of temps so he can choose is the best way, as long as the temps are not dangerous.......
P.s. - you have got no crap from anyone, just good advice :)

I'm sorry to tell everyone this, but I think Turbo probably won't make it. We can't get in with a chameleon vet anywhere in town, and there's nobody within 4 hours that can help him. He seemed to be responding to treatment and to the changes we made to his cage, but when we got home today, he had a terrible infection smell, and he has vomited up all his water and his food.

His stomach is empty, so we're giving him warm water, so at least he's not dry heaving. But unless anyone has any chameleon-survives-terrible-infection stories, I think we'll have to put him down tomorrow if we can get in with a vet. He's not even holding himself up.

We've read the euthanasia thread on here, and I know how everyone feels about freezing/suffocating reptiles, so I promise we'll take him to a vet and have him put to sleep properly.

Thanks so much to everybody that has tried to help over the past little while. We really appreciate the help. You guys are great.

Thank you.

Ben and Rianne.
