i know everyone has there own ways of raising the babies from the time they are born i was just wondering which of these you think would be best

1) ive got a spare flexarium, its not the smallest but the next one up i think, which would be best for this:-
a:- put all babies into this without separating any into other cages
b:- separate the cage into 2 or 3 separate bits and spread the babies between them

2) buy some small mesh cages (sell them at local petshop) they are made for mantis's and i think some keep butterflys and moths in them
they are about 14" cubed and all mesh with a little zip door bit, if doing this how many would i need say if i got 30 babies hatch?

3) use baby bins, like a large tub with some mesh on top so they cant get out, if so again would it be best to get a few and separate them between them or 1 big one and put them all together

4) with a UV bulb being on for alot of time, would i also need a heat bulb for them? (veiled chameleons)

5) fruit flys or pin heads, which do you think are better?

6) vermiculite or perlite for incubating ?

thanks
andy

I use plastic tubs. I house around 5 babies to a tub. I do not have any lid on it. I just set the plants so they can not get to the top. UVB and a heat lamp on all of the time. But that is me, check you temps. Fruit flies are ok but you need to feed 2x a day, but they will grow much faster with pinheads. Either will work for incubating I have used both with success.

I use the same method as Champhibians with the tubs and no tops. You just have to make sure that you keep the plants trimmed so they can't reach the rim of the tub. For newly hatched I feed pinheads and fruitflies twice a day and water twice a day. For incubation i have tried both as well as a combination of the two. I have found that vermiculite alone works the best for me. Perlite by itself would tend to dry out when I tried it. A 50/50 mix of the two wasn't bad but why take the time when vermiculite was good alone.

My female seems to be carrying eggs as she isnt eating much and you can see what seem to be egg shapes, how long should it take from being able to pick egg shapes in here to laying? shes showing no signs of digging around nor going into the lay bucket

so everyone seems to use baby bins now questions for them:-

1) how big should they be? and how many in that size?

2) do you separate the babies by sex or have mixed sex groups?

thats all thanks
andy :)
