My boyfriend's baby veiled chameleon fell off a leaf at the very top of the cage. He says she seems fine but I wanted to get some feed back from other owners on whether he should take her to the vet to make sure she is fine or not. Any advice?
If she got up after a few seconds and started climbing, she's probably okay.... like rodents, they seem to be designed to cope with falling. If you are concerned, you might make sure the floor is free of pointy sticks and things that might damage a falling chameleon. They do fall sometimes even when healthy.
Question: would it be a good idea to just subdivide this cage with a "safety net" at the halfway point (or above) to keep the chameleon in the top half of the cage and then move the "safety net" down as the chameleon ages?
While I would crochet such a safety net, I can think of many ready made materials that could serve the purpose.
Or is it better to raise the baby in a smaller cage and move it to a bigger cage?
Baby chameleons are designed to fall, it's one of their greatest defenses against being eaten by a bird or a snake ... just fall out of the tree!
As the animal is falling it should fill it's body with air which is released on impact cushioning the fall.
Their ribs are designed to survive this.
he fell in my bathroom from my hands to the floor he's about my pinky size he's probably 5 6 weeks old i think and he was really green when he hit the floor he was kinda knocked out for like 3 seconds then opened his eyes started turning brown almost black he ate afterwards and he's gotten a little green but when i go near him he turn brown... he friggen hates me know. should i worry would he be okay from that fall, is he going to have daddy issues afterwards from the drop?
