This is a follow-up to my post yesterday https://www.chameleonforums.com/baby-senegal-pics-what-do-you-think-68015/
Really need some ideas on what I can do for this little guy....don't want to lose him. (there aren't any reptile vets in my area)
Found out from the pet store today that he was imported I was hoping he was at least captive-born being so young.
He has not eaten anything all day today and has slept most of the day. I've gotten him to drink a few drops of water by putting the end of the dropper right in his mouth. I heard Pedialyte can be used to hydrate chameleons?
I've been misting him a lot and keeping the humidity way up i his cage, about 70 percent...
As far as lights I'm having a hard time keeping the temps stable, the mercury vapor bulb gets it too hot, so i keep having to shut it off and put up my compact reptisun 5.0 alongside an infrared heat lamp. Those too just don't provide enough light I'm afraid. Need to switch to a regular basking light that emits more visible light.
He hasn't been exposed to any dangerous temps, I've caught them in time before any areas he was in were too hot, but do you think just the changing back and forth between the MV and other lights could be messing up his sleep cycles and/or causing the lethargy? The temps he has experienced have varied between 68 this morning up to 90 about an hour ago. He was probably in about 70-75F most of the day with a couple interspersed hours of 80+ before the highest branch in his cage got too hot (110 - he was not up there) and I had to switch bulbs. (I don't have any lights or heat sources on at night, because I know they need darkness and a temperature drop)
Another issue that has come up is that he has a lot of mucus in his stools. I read this could be caused by illness or by certain uncommon feeder insects. (All I've fed him is crickets). The pet store said it could be caused by pin worms or round worms and recommened I give him a weight-based dose of Panacur. I'm not sure if I should give him that or not.... a cham breeder and importer once told me they do not administer panacur because it is not studied in reptiles.
What do you guys think? If this lethargy is caused by parasites does anyone know how long it will take for the Panacur to rid him of them?
I just don't know what to do. So scared of losing this little guy. Wondering if it's the unstable temp and lighting that is wearing him out if I should just take him back to the pet store and maybe he would have a better shot there? There cham enclosure is a very small (about 12X15 glass enclosure only about 4 feet off the floor....with lots of substrate and a waterfall (both I read are dangerous to chams).
What would you do?
