Babies are hatching RIGHT NOW!

Hey everyone! One of my veild chameleons is hatching right now, how long does it take until it comes completly out of the shell? It's head is sticking out and it is just laying there not doing nothing, every once in a while it will try to pick its head up or you can see it breathing slightly. Should I leave it in the plastic container with the lid on in the shoe box so it can finish hatching? Or should I help it come out?

On another note how long will it take for all the other one's to start hatching? I don't see any sign of them starting to hatch.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

I usually let them hatch on there own...and leave them in the container (after they have hatched) for a few hours before I take them out.

Let him walk on the other eggs to wake them up. If you don't see him getting out in a couple of days I would help but thats me.

So it can breath in the plastic container with the lid on? I do have a hole about an 1/8 in the top of it, should I make another hole?

Oh okay so its normal for them to just lay there with their head out? And it takes days for them to actually come all the way out?

Thats exactly how I incubated veiled eggs...no need to make another hole.

About helping them out...I've never helped one of my chams out of the egg, but I know its not good for other animals. I used to breed birds (english parakeets) and If I would ever try and help a baby out of its egg it usually wouldn't make it. Im shure that little guy will hatch out fine;)

It came out :) now how long until the other one's start coming out? I left it in there so maybe it will wake the other little guys up :) I will take it out in an hour or so.

Congrats Chamy!!!! I have a clutch of panther comming out. 2 eggs were sweating and now they are colapsed and slitted.

Well this may be a dumb question but here we go. When they are hatching do you guys have some kind of light peeking into the incubator. Right now mine is in a drawer with no light.

No question is a dumb question :), mine do not have any light but are they suppose to? Hopfully someone can answer this question for us.

In a natural situation they would be buried under several inches of dirt.

Just as Brad said "they are buried under several inches of dirt", so you wouldn't need any kind of light. Just keep them exactly how they were before they were hatching, you do not want to do much different... remember not all the eggs will hatch emediatly. I had a clutch of 39 veiled eggs hatch in 7 months, all but 2 hatched in a 2 week period, two eggs hatched a month and a half later. Also Remember to post pics of the little ones!!:D

Thanks chamman. Thats what I thought. I use my friends camera and he is at the beach so hopefully they dont all hatch before he gets back.

Chamy Im not trying to hijack your thread but I have one more question. So my eggs started to sweat. I only saw them sweating the day before the slit. The 2 eggs were slit sometime yesterday. I noticed them at night. This morning it seems that they are maybe a little more slit open and there is still fluid. How long do they chill in the egg after the slit? How long untill I should be worried that they are not going to come out after the egg is slit?

I have an egg with the little guy hanging half out... I can see his head... how long should I wait... also.. what would be a good temp for the little guy?

They are laying in the eggs absorbing what is left of the egg yolk...and likely resting from the struggle to slit the egg. Its always said to leave them alone and let them come out when they are ready.

The only time I ever help them is if the egg slits at one end and rips at the other...then the baby has nothing to push against to get out...so when it starts to struggle to get out I hold the ripped (rear) end of the egg together with tweezers to let it push itself out.

Another one of mine slit the egg 3 days ago and its still in there, when should I be worried??? Better yet, what is the AVEREAGE days a cham stays in once its slit??
