B. lateralis/ Red racers

Just for the record every one. The B. lateralis roaches are the worst feeders to have. I have had my place sprayed 3 times since I got rid of them, and just found one racing around on the lid of my sump pump. You all know how the saying goes, "Where there is one...."

Pest control is coming out again and they said this time they will be totally eliminated. I can only keep my fingers crossed, because if my wife knew she would flip out.

During the winter months when the temps. were below Zero, I left a colony outside to freeze for 2 months. I brought them back inside, they thawed out and in 1 hour all of them were racing around. After that I got rid of all of them. They have been gone since Feb. and I just found 1 about 5 months later.

This is fair warning, don't keep them in your house or any where you don't want roaches. Stick with Dubia, they are much safer and are super slow in comparison.

Yeah good choice my friend!!!! Especially considering you live in Florida, I would 100% stay away from them. Your house could be infested so fast it would be terrible.

Ive heard they are fast. But I would never have believed they could live thru an ohio winter!

I never thought it could have been possible either. When I brought the colony inside from the frozen weather, the colony was frozen solid. I thought for sure they were done for. Just 1 hr. later they were racing around just as fast as ever.

I hope you.......fix your problem before your wife finds out;)

Me too or she will be swearing up and down at me and the chameleons. Luckily, the pest guys came out here and took care of it. With luck this will be the last time. They said this is one species of roach that can be a total nightmare.

That is a great question. I got a descent sized colony for FREE, no wonder they were free right. In no time they reproduced into massive numbers. From what I have read and dealt with first hand is they are extremely prolific breeders. However, a lot of info out there on them is a little contradicting, some say they can fly and hover and others say they can't. All I know is stay the heck away from them.

Thanx for the heads up. It took me a month of waffling before i even went for the dubia and I havent even had much luck in gettin my crew to eat them yet.

Most my chams like dubia, but a few snub their noses at them. However, dubia are really safe to use. I have never had any issues with that species.

Anybody that has these things is a short bus special. If you think that you can tame/contain an invasive species of roach then you have another thing coming as Kilgour now knows. People that breed and sell them saying that they are fine, wont multiply ECT are full of crap, even dubia can get out now and again so just imagine these little SOB’s. If you want a small and fast roach take a look at the lobster roach, and even then those can be a little iffy if you are not careful. Do yourself a favor if you read this and STAY AWAY from those roaches. I had a friend who moved out of his apartment because he had several get out and BOOM, it became the roaches apartment, not his.

Thats really unfortunate, most of our roaches we feed can and will populate in most homes.

FAST AS @#$%#$@%^#$ but red runners are a great feeder though, :)

I had some and I couldn't get them to reproduce for a long time. I don't know how people did it, because even when I did get them to, they were still really lame at it. I never found one in the house either. The couldn't climb, but I used an olive oil barrier anyways.

lol red runner roaches are ok.... when i was cleaning their enclosure my dog come with a toy and the enclosure dropped and like 20 of them escaped. in one week i got rid of them.

from my point of view lobster roach is more more and i mean more nasty....he can climb and will infest like crazy

Lol...this is a zombie thread. These are nasty little roaches and I agree Lobster roaches are even worse. Stick with dubia. :)

scaring me

This just makes me want to get rid of the dubias I just bought.... if those other things can live through our Ohio weather oh my.....
