automatic mister questions

i am now slowly setting up my new big boy cage for my male veiled. i have a question regardin the automatic mister. i have the drain all figured out. the cage will sit un a utility sink and i will plumb the drain of that so it will dain down into the basement sump. i want to set up the mister so that i dont have have to fill up the reservoir. basically an automated system. i have a salwater reef tank and have done somthing similar for evaporation water top off. i just fill up a reservoir once a week and a float valve turns it on and off. what i would like to do is hook up some tubing from the house plumbing either into a reservoir or directly into the pump for the mister. what im unsure about is what kind of valve i would need to tell it to fill and stop filling the reservoir or if i plumb it directly into the pump would the water pressure be too much for the pump. if anyone has done somthing like this or has any ideas i would really appreciate it. thanks in advance

run a small water line to the resevoir with a solenoid water check valve controlled by a float switch. but i would make sure your source is filtered.

John,
I'm not sure how you top off your SW tank. I use an old peristalic pump (Litermeter) controlled by a float switch in the sump. I then have a 30 gal top off tank out in the garage that I fill with RO\DI water. I use a hose bib timer to control the RO unit and that pretty much tops off the top off drum. I can pretty much walk away from my reef for months and not worry about top off..That said, you might try setting up the misting system the same way. If your just going to use tap water to mist then you could set up a holding tank outside and top it off with a hose bib timer..

yeah i have a rainsoft whole house filtration system that filters out all chlorine and some other harmful stuff. but i also have an ro/di filter that i use for my reef and i could use that if the other is not sufficient. will this solenoid valve work? it is in the second box. model # 2p025

and i would just get a float switch from aquahub. do i have this correct?
thanks

the solenoid switch is normally closed so would i need a float switch that is normally open so that when it floats up it will shut off the solenoid
thanks john

kent marine has float valves you could use to top off your resevoir. i have not bought one for years but when i get home i still have some in the box and will place the details here. just put the 1/4 inch tube from your ro into the resevoir like you prabably did for your saltwater. the valves are mechamical no need for anything fancier

PS i will be setting mine up this way as soon as i replace the filters on my r/o system

will those float valves be able to shut off 60 psi? i do not want to use the ro/di filter. i want to fill my reservoir straight out of the house plumbing. thanks
