Arm/tail grabbing

My male veiled is grabbing his front arm with his back feet. He was seen by the vet yesterday for an abscess and now he is grabbing his feet when he is walking. Not all the time but I noticed him doing this 4times since yesterday at 2 pm. Normal or not? He seems to think they are branches and gets very upset and is pulling his arms in two directions for a second or two trying to let go and grip on something else. He also grabbed his tail twice :(

Grabbing themselves is usually an early sign of MBD.

Can you post photos of him please?

As wel as fill out the help form?

i believe that is cause my mbd i would take your cham to a vet again as soon as u can from what i have seen on the forums those are early signs of it. i think a more experienced member should stop by and let you know

On my iPhone. But I've only had him for 2 months now. He has a reptisun 5.0 UVB and a heat lamp (on 12 hours off 12 reg house bulb) he gets all rep-cal products. Cal every other day. D3 once a month. Heptivite every 2 weeks. I take him out in the sun too about twice a week. I gutload and refer to Sandrachameleons blogs constantly. I can't post a photo right now but his leg is swollen from the abscess anyway so it would be hard to tell. He is only 5 months old. He eats like a piggy - crickets waxworms super worms house flies hornworms etc. his temps are at 87 basking and 75 cooler area. Drops to 70 at night. Driper automated mister hand mist and a humidifier for my house

Even with proper everything, some chams can develop mbd.

when you can, post a photo of him. from the side, so we can see all four llimbs please.

I would go back to your vet, and ask them to take x rays.

if he has the beginning stages of MBD, the toes and feet bones will barely show up on the xray. \\

This has been a bummer week. We have an appointment for dr. Ivan Alfonso tommrow it was originally for my Senegal but she only sneezed that one time so I'm holding off and I'll bring him in instead. In tears :,-( trying to get Sis to post pictures from home soon

yea you are having a rough go with the reptiles in your home..

Like I said, have x rays done, and go from there.

but limb grabbin more than once or twice is a early sign of mbd. :(

Almost forgot if you look through my thread the fourth if July I posted a side pic of him!! Titled the the chams sleeping 4 th of july

You are a good chameleon enthusiast. I have seen in the past, you are willing to go to a vet when required. I have seen others who blow it off and say they cannot afford it, but will then turn around and blow the visit $ instead on cigarettes, a six pack and a movie...

his limbs look straight. so thts a good thing.

may just need to up- his calcium intake.

do you feed daily?

Yes I do because he is growing right now. He gets approx 8-10 food items a day. He lives for wax worms which I give only on occasion. Depends on what prey I give him to the amount I feed. He lives hibiscus flowers and leafs and he tried a strawberry and a bit of romaine lettuce

I still chain smoke. But I wouldn't smoke if it meant they couldn't receive the help they deserve. Love my babies. Thank you btw !!

Ok if you feed him every day, dust with calcium everyday. the w/o d3 one.

Ok so everyday not every other day. Thank you. This means a lot. I feel like a serious pestilence in the last few days on here trying to get my babies help and facts straight. It's only because of wonderful people like you am I able to relax and get my head straight to do the right things

it can be very overwhelming when there are multiple chams.
I know th efeeling.

I took in a special needs panther back in march, and while i dont regret it, it was scary and hard work to get him back on track health wise.

You aren't being a pest at all, even the most experienced members on here get unsure of themselves sometimes (they must, seriously!). You are really good at giving advice and nursed your Senegal through some horrible times, you can do this. Whenever you are worried about something, post it on the board, and while you are waiting for replies, try to think about what you'd suggest if someone asked you that question.

We'll all get each other through days like this!

Wait, so where is the abscess? It's on his leg? Is it the leg he is using to grab other limbs?

All of us are just an extended family. Sometimes the kids fight, but we all care about our family.

Aww Skittles :( I'm really sorry that you're having a rough time at the moment. I've been reading your other posts, but haven't replied until today as I couldn't really help. I really hope that all your guys are ok.

Much love from Scotland <3 :)
