Yes..as long as they are not part of the toxic variety. But, be warned that if you have a Veiled chameleon...you are going to watch a very pretty plant get eaten! There is a member here that seems to be a specialist on orchids and I can't for the life of me remember her name. Hopefully she will see this thread and chime in.
What orchid is toxic?
Cymbidium orchids, or boat orchids, are a genus that I think has over 50 species. Regardless of the count, I have read studies of them containing quinone. So, until I see further studies that the have no ill effect on chameleons that may ingest them, I would just rather no use them.
But, there is a member here who seems to be an orchid guru. I was hoping she would see this thread, she may have furthering information that I have yet to find on this topic. I can't for the life of me remember her name. I think the Forum needs a list of all it's members for reference purposes such as this.
The terrestrial orchids?
How about Paphiopedilum and any of the other "slipper" orchids?
I personally have never heard nor read of any paphs being toxic....although a tiny Brookesia could fall into the labellum I suppose..HA!
I fantasize about doing up a cage with orchids. I used to have hundreds of them in the Virgin Islands. I miss my orchids.
How about a vanda would theses be good in a cham cage?
Hopefully X-raygirl will chime in she's the orchid expert . I also have thought about adding some color to my cages.
