Are slices of oranges a good sole water source for crickets? I occasionally use them and the crickets seem to flock to it, but have heard that citric fruits can have an adverse effect on chams......

I have used them for 3 years and have not had any adverse effects that I know of, although I am not sure what those might be either. I don't use it everyday for gutload, but a couple of times a week.

I have always heard of people using oranges for water, although they should also be getting their water from fresh veggies such as mustard greens, collard greens, and so on. I can only say for sure that oranges out of the citrus fruits are okay as grapefruits or pineapple may be different. I am sure someone else will chime in.

occasional use is absolutely fine. Using a mix of fruits and veg is best. Too much citric acid is reported to be problematic.
