I have kept salt water reef tanks for most of my adult life. In the refugiums of those tanks, I have always had small mangrove trees growing to help filter the water and it has worked perfectly.
I am giving up the aquariums and going to try my hand at a chameleon. I hate to get rid of the mangrove trees so I was thinking about potting them and putting them in the bottom of the custom chameleon cage I am constructing to help collect the excess water before it runs in to the drainage system. I'm not worried about lighting as these things will grow with just about any light (grown them for years with just regular 60w bulbs from Home Depot. What I am worried about is whether these plants would be safe? I know they are quiet beneficial for fish, but not sure about chameleons. I checked the safe plant list on FLchams, but I couldn't find anything about mangroves. Does anyone know if they will harm a chameleon?
