aquarium bulbs as grow bulbs

ugh, Im still at a crossroads as to what to put in my second tube spot for my plants...lol, there is alot of information and opinions in this thread, thank you to everyone who contributed
If I may,
I would recommend going with either a Zoo Med Ultra Sun or a Zoo Med Nature Sun bulb.
They are nice bulbs (made in Germany, good quality!) with nice "daylight" full spectrum light output. 6.5K
Both are similar to each other.
I have personally used them in combination with Repti Sun 5.0 bulbs, over plants.
(Also they both have very high CRI values... something no one has mentioned. CRI = Color Rendering Index.

Being also involved in reef tank keeping, I'm biased to bright light. In our chameleon cage which is 24" wide, I have 4x 24" 20Watt T8 Bulbs lighting it. I have 2 Reptisun 5.0 bulbs and 2 Hagen Life-Glo bulbs. I'm not sure of the Kelvin rating of the Life-Glos, but they provide a nice white (not blue or yellow) light which do great for plant growth. I feel that the Life-Glos are the brightest standard output flourescent bulbs out. I've noticed that most people just use their UVB and basking light to light their enclosures. IMHO, I feel that more light not only is aesthetically pleasing, but help with showing the cham's colors better. I've even thought of using one of my Metal Halide/T5 fixtures, but the halide is really intense and I'm worried about blinding.

So I didn't know if this has ever been discussed here.
But is anyone doing different light levels throughout the day?
Like having partial lighting on in the morning?....
Then all lights on for "mid day sun" (and heat)...
and then having lower light levels come evening?
To mimic the natural intensity curve of light throughout the day?
I started experimenting with it over a year and a half ago and now I am sold on it, doing that over ALL my dart frog set-ups.
Just wondered it anyone had tried it with Chams. ?
It is intersting how it seems to effect the frogs daily activity cycles and calling (singing) and breeding.
