hi i have a male adult veiled chameleon 2 years now (He officially became a father today 2 out of 30 eggs hatched so far)he stopped eating a week ago and began shedding which is normal behavior for him but when i went to feed him today and i noticed what looked like an open cut (no blood)between his 2 back arms,i never noticed it before on him i think its his arse just protruding?i looked it up on the net and it does not appear to be or show obvious signs of a hemipenal prolapse, ive mated him once hence the eggs but is it possible for a 2 year old to suffer this at such an early age?i spoke to my vet who said its prob just his arse but any other help you can give me i would be grateful for as im sure there is a keeper who has seen this before, thanks people,Lee!

Welcome to the forums! Had your chameleon just pooped? They don't close their vents very quickly after sometimes. Lily wipes hers on her branch after she poops then closes it up again! Also the way they sit can make the vent appear more open. Photos of the area may help. Anyway, those are my thoughts and I know other more experienced keepers than me will help out soon.

If there is anything that looks like it could be intestines or hemipenes protruding out of his vent (where the poop comes out) I would recommend keeping it moist with k-y jelly until you can find out what it is. Its important that this is dealt with quickly.

Please post a picture.

thanks!!

Thanks for your replies i have spoke with my vet and am going to bring him in on wednesday his behaviour is fine and he is not in pain by the looks of it he has bright colours and is flyin around his vivarium think he could be constipated i can see inside and thats what it loooks like its clean and no blood hopefully thats all!

Any tissue that should be inside that is showing outside needs to be kept moist or it will likely go necrotic. It won't hurt to put some k-y jelly on it to keep it moist even if its just the edges of his vent that are sticking out.

Can you post a picture of it?
