I'm looking to see what temps everyone who's using regular household bulbs. Is basking 80-85 par for the course out of a 60-65 watt bulb? I need to cut a cost somewhere!!! LOL

Agreed. My house is a bit cool, and harder for an incandescent to get the temp up. If you have a dedicated herp room and raise the temp you may not have an issue. Also you can get those same bulbs and any supply store for a couple bucks a piece.

I'm sick of spending $8 on zoo med basking spots that burn out within a month. Household bulbs are cheaper and last longer.
Well, Ive never used anything but house hold bulbs, but that seems awful fast for any bulb to burn out.
It really depends mostly on ambient temps.

A hell of a lot cheaper to buy multiple household bulbs and try them all I guess :)
I keep 50w to 100w bulbs on hand.
I have had to switch my jacksons usual 60w for a 50w during last summer(I was in the desert)
You might as well try them all out, then you will have them on hand if you need them.

Those blue basking bulbs I think have a year warrenty on them.... And I use just plain house bulbs. But you better hurry and stock up they are pulling them off the shelves everyday and making people get cfl bulbs.

All ready beat you to it lol. You should have seen the looks on peoples faces when a guy brings a buggy full of 60 watts up and says hold on and then brings a buggy up full of 40 watts and then says hold on one more time and brings a half cart of 75 watts up they were at a loss lol. Lowes had a light bulb sell and i wiped the shelves clean:) now my closet is full to the top of bulbs lol.

That's awesome! I really plan on using the shelf swiping arm bar method when I'm there tomorrow. I may take out a few people!

I use a 100w, but I have it on a dimmer. They seem to last longer than the 60-75w. It seemed after a couple weeks, I would need to move it closer to get the exact temps I wanted. I just turn the dimmer up now. I also keep my house in the 60s.

I tryied a house bulb last night in my dimmer (energy efficent bulb) and it keep flickering so I took it out. I have one of those small floor heaters in the chameleons room too just in case it gets cold at night. I was lucky to find my female calming down and sleeping on her favorite again. Since she was mad at me for moving her to a different room so yay!
